Victor Robles might not just be "hot"

Post by Pharmabro » Fri Aug 02, 2024 6:15 am

I have seen a few posters speculate that at any time Victor could just not be good. I get it. I have had that same feeling but this video has me more than giving it a 2nd thought.

I hope you watch it:

The video has a lot more information but this is the biggest eye-opening point this is one of his previous years baseball savant:

He had year when he had the highest % of soft contact and the least % of hard contact. And they were all pretty much the same as this year give or take great speed on bases, great fielding, Arm, but just not a good hitter.( Edit, data suggests at the extreme poor end of hitter spectra).

And yet, in his 3rd year in MLB all SSS before in 155 games he had a 91 OPS+ but 17 HR, 28 SB, 3 triples 33 doubles. A few HR shy of a 20-20 year.

Anyhow, but consider as of today 28% of his stats this year look like those horrible underlying numbers from the hitting profile from DC. And his player card that says expected triple slash is .276/.360/.476 based on the year is actually way over .300/.400/.500 based on his Seattle adjustments.

Will the league analyze and adjust? Yes. But Robles has earned his numbers in Seattle based on the data I see.

On that 30.9 FPS SS: if you look at his Savant player card and hit play his rookie year sprint speed comes up as 30.9 FPS

Now we see this data after the DaHart to Heart talk with Robles through the interpreter. And this includes the horrible numbers before he cam to Seattle in DC:

Based on this he would be a good guy to resign in the off season if he keeps up the good work. And, he wants to be here.

Unfortunately, he has had one of his main weapons dulled. He broke in with 30.9 FPS sprint speed which was best in baseball at the time. His current mark for the year says 27.7 which is above average but not elite.

2020-22 he was at 28.4 FPS
2019 28.7
2018 28.8

That is his fastest time I found on Savant

I am assuming he mixed up stats and did not catch an edit or used some other source that is different than mine. I the the 1st one is more likely because Savant's #s go back to 2015 and Bobby Witt's 30.4 FPS is the fastest they have.

I'm confused, the question was why he decided to sign with the Mariners. The answer seems to be why he likes it there going forward

Well he probably didn't want to say "because they are the only team that wanted me"

Bottom Line
Victor Robles has transformed his career with the Mariners, showcasing his talent and making a case for a lucrative contract. Scott Servais's coaching has played a key role in this revival, emphasizing the importance of opportunity in player development.

It all depends on how he finishes the season...
