Yep. We haven't traded a good player for minor leaguers since we traded Cano for JK et al.
Other than the Cano trade, has this team ever traded a major league player for a prospect-centered package? Is there a deadline deal I'm not remembering?
Griffey, Randy, Bedard, Fister, Ichiro were all traded for prospect packages.
Griffey brought back Mike Cameron and Brett Tomko. But the Randy trade and the others are good examples of prospect packages. Still, my sense is that this organization has never really liked trading for prospects. It seems like what they always say is that they want major league ready talent back. I wonder if that will change with "the core" becoming increasingly more expensive in the next few years. I mean, if you start trading those guys, do you really want the dregs of others team's 26-man rosters, or do you want something shiny and new?

We got a great return for Randy. Nothing for nothing with Bedard and Ichiro. Trading Fister for that trash package was idiotic. I guess Furbush was ok.

Would be a good time for one of the Mariners writers to go over "Trader Jerry's" history with trades.
Off the top of my head, here are the useful players he traded away.
Anybody have a list of all the useful players he's brought in by trade?
Mitch Haniger, Tom Murphy, Ty France, Andres Munoz, Jarred Kelenic... who am I missing?

There was some hype around Trayvon Robinson and Casper Wells. Robinson was rated in some top-100 lists. Wells had dropped a .901 OPS and 1.5 bWAR over 36 games his rookie year.

So he has traded away almost 112 WAR which is almost 2 HOFers. 112 Wins in 9 seasons or 12 wins a season..Seems like a lot

JP Crawford should also be on the list too obviously.
I wonder how many good players they've passed up because they're committed to JP though...
(Probably none, because they'd never pay them anyways)

Seems like things would have gone a lot different if he had never traded Pablo Lopez for Ken Phelps.
Or traded Freddy Peralta for Adam Lind, who he had to acquire because he traded away Mark Trumbo for Steve Clevenger.
And if he had held onto Ketel Marte instead of turning him into JP Crawford (via Segura, eventually).
Or if he hadn't traded off Chris Taylor for Zach Lee.
Trader Jerry... pfft.

David Phelps pitched 8 innings for us. Pablo pitched over 500 for the Marlins and put up over 8 WAR then they traded him for Arraez who put up 5 WAR for them. Then they traded him to the Padres for FOUR prospects.
