GM Meetings news
I saw some interesting stuff I thought I would share with you.
1st One of our minor league FA's is drawing interest
Curvelo most recently pitched for the Mariners Double-A affiliate Arkansas Travelers in 2024. He had a 2.57 ERA with 78 strikeouts in 66.2 innings pitched in 49 appearances. (I am hoping we get him to come to ST with a minor league contract but maybe a bit of a bump $ to provide depth.)

Hollander doubles down on we're set for the OF.
#3 Apparently the Cards are ready to be dealt:
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals are waving the white flag before the holidays and are open for business, willing to listen to trades on anyone. You want Arenado? How about Gray? All-Star catcher Willson Contreras? All-Star closer Ryan Helsley? The Cardinals are all ears as they embark on a reboot.
Seattle Mariners
The Mariners may have been the most dangerous team not to reach the postseason. Certainly, they had the best pitching staff and could have been a nightmare to anyone in their path. They haven’t made the postseason in 22 of their last 23 years. If the streak continues another season, heads will start to roll. Anything less than a playoff berth will be catastrophic.

It kind of backs-up DT idea for a the Nolan trade. I think I am going to go revisit that one.

I'd do a swap for Arenado and Haniger if the Cards eat another $10 million or so.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 5:29 amI saw some interesting stuff I thought I would share with you.

They're not going to be able to get rid of these guys for much.
Here are their MLBTV values:
Arenado: -$25.5M
Gray: $-16.1M
Contreras: $-27.1M
Helsley: $14 M
They'll likely have to attach Helsley to any of these big contracts to move them.
What is it with Nightengale? He really thinks the fact that these guys were once All Stars negates the fact that their contracts are under water.

I missed Zaidi getting canned. The Giants going old school now

Signing Haniger was probably one of the reasons for it.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 10:57 amI missed Zaidi getting canned. The Giants going old school now

Re: GM Meetings news
It's coming out now what a jerk he was. Seems interesting in terms of the dipoto situation. Wondering if it's a common quality with the analytical crowd, like our guy, what was his name? Replaced him with Posey, seems like a clear change of direction.

JD spotted with Cub's GM
I wonder what they could be talking about? Ian Happ, Nico Hoerner, ?

"The pitching-rich Mariners may be a trade match and could be interested in the talented young infielders coming through the Cubs’ system such as Matt Shaw and James Triantos."Pharmabro wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 5:43 amhttps://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/ ... ngNewsSerp

"Furthermore, Shaw and Triantos are both listed as top-five prospects for the Cubs and they are both predicted to debut in 2025, but for an M's team with a giant sense of urgency to win, do they really want to acquire prospects that have yet to play? If they were going to do that, couldn't they just turn the job over to their own prospect, Cole Young, while keeping their staff in tact?"
At least the author of the article has some sense...

Locklear OPS
AA .933
MLB .536
Young OPS
AA .759
MLB ???
I don't think Young will crash that hard but guessing we are looking at low 600s if he spent 2025 in the big leagues

Re: GM Meetings news
Young needs at least another season in the minors. He's done well but 2024 would have been his junior year in college and so giving him another year in the minors at age 21 shouldn't be an issue. And honestly, for his profile as a contact first guy without a lot of power, his level of performance so far has been pretty much the best case scenario.

I also follow the cubs and I am not ecstatic about Ian or Nico especially at T-Mobile instead of wrigleyPharmabro wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 5:43 amhttps://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/ ... ngNewsSerp
