ST Game Thread 1 - Fri 21 Feb

Post by mostonmike » Wed Feb 19, 2025 1:19 pm

Mariners @ Padres
Peoria Stadium - Fri 2/21/25, 12:10 PST / 1:10 MST / 3:10 EST / 8:10 GMT
Available on MLB app and radio Seattle Sports 710

The times look right but you might have to forgive me for odd errors over next couple of weeks because you do the silly clocks move forward 9 March and we don’t do ours until 30 March. Another example of the nonsense of daylight saving.

ROOT only covering 7 games, plus taking 3 opposition broadcasts to bring it up to 10. Another 8 games on MLB, so hardly full coverage.

What’s New
60% of Spring Training games feature Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) challenge system. (It seems that 13 of the 23 stadiums are equipped, Peoria being one of them)

* Each team will start the game with two challenges apiece.
* Retain challenge if its successful
* Only batter, pitcher or catcher can issue challenge
* Challenges must be made immediately after the umpire’s call, without assistance from the dugout or other players.
* Challenge is issued by player who taps his cap or helmet to alert the umpire to his desire to challenge the call.
* The Hawk-Eye view is shown to those in attendance via the video board and to home viewers via the broadcast.
* Like the plate, strikezone is 17-inches wide. The top end of the zone is at 53.5% of the player’s height, while the bottom is at 27% of the player’s height. The depth of the zone is 8.5 inches from both the front and back of the plate.

Nearly time to watch some baseball. And at least Spring Training is generally all prime time for me, only 6 of them are middle of the night.

I wonder if the Mariner batters are going to go off this Spring like they did last year.

It was a magical March as the Mariner Mitches mastered their mission of mashing meandering meatballs and manufacturing majestic moonshots against myriads of midling minor-league mound-dwellers.

Funny I have interviews the next few days in 4 time zones. Only difference is CST in Texas vs. MST in AZ. Talking to a dude in Dublin.

I wonder if the games on the app are also on Root then? Makes sense to simulcast them.

I've now had all the alliterative "m's" I can handle in one day. Lower case. I'm up for watching the upper case variety. Anyone know where I can catch the game streaming live and free?
