nothing but a bunch of made-up horseshit. A "source" tells Rapaport. That "source" is definitely NOT RW. Probably some janitor telling his opinion based on nothing. Pisses me off, actually.
Re: RW wants to explore his options
Totally agree this is complete Horseshit as Condotta points out but does it really negatively impact the outcome of next season? Was last offseason's craziness why we went 7-10 instead of 10-7 or 11-6 this season? Honest question.
btw Why in the Love of God's green Acres does JS have a contract that goes through 2027!?!?!?!??!?!

Seattle Times staff reporter
The headline on a story Sunday morning on NFL.com — the league’s sanctioned website — was catchy.
“Seahawks QB Russell Wilson wants to explore options this offseason,” was the headline emblazoned across the top of a story written by one of the network’s main information reporters, Ian Rapoport.
And as expected, the story generated lots of immediate social media attention.
But that headline and discussion may have obscured some facts detailed in the story and known to be true — Wilson has not requested a trade. And in Rapoport’s on-air version of the report, he noted that Wilson wants to explore his options “in case the Seahawks would like to trade him or would trade him.”
There is zero evidence that the Seahawks would like to trade Wilson or “would trade him.”
So what is the story saying? Well, possibly, simply that if something were to happen, Wilson would want to use his no-trade clause, which the team agreed to as part of his most recent contract signed in April 2019.
The story cited as its source “those close to Wilson” — but did not specify who while also noting that his agent, Mark Rodgers, did not return calls for the moment — and cited those sources as saying that Wilson “wants to investigate other destinations to see if those would put him in a better position to win another championship and create the legacy he sees for himself.”
But with two years left on his contract and no indication that Seattle wants to trade him or is even thinking about it, it’s hard to know what “exploring options” means.

It is very likely this is leaked by his camp. Let's not pretend Russ has never tried to add leverage where he has non. I think his agent is a jackwagon that doesn't understand football. Every time he opens his mouth, stupid shit comes out of it.SeattleAddict wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 12:41 amnothing but a bunch of made-up horseshit. A "source" tells Rapaport. Lee Vowell of 12th man rising:
What Russell Wilson might not be seeing in the big picture, however, is how his legacy becomes a little more tarnished every time one of these kinds of reports is published. For a player who seemingly cares a lot about his own image (Russell Wilson surely curates a way to put himself in a positive light as best as possible with the events he goes to and how he is photographed), Wilson’s doesn’t seem to be aware of how many 12s will react to his being open to not playing for their favorite team anymore.
A lot of these reports and the speculation that follows probably can be blamed on Wilson’s agent, Mark Rodgers. Rodgers is an agent who works mostly with baseball players and thinks the NFL works the same way; A player wants out, maybe the team will trade him.
Report says Russell Wilson wants to explore his options to leave the Seahawks
The NFL doesn’t work like baseball and can’t. There are no minor leagues in the NFL so there are no known prospects working their way up to be on the big team. In other words, NFL teams can’t trade one of their best players for a bunch of prospects.
The NFL also has a hard salary cap and baseball doesn’t. This means some of the teams Russell Wilson reportedly might be open to being traded to may not be able to afford him. Rodgers doesn’t seem to understand this at times.

Re: RW wants to explore his options
If the Seahawks want to trade him (which there is zero indication that they do) then RW has all the leverage he needs with his NT clause.
If the Seahawks don't want to trade him what good does this story do for him?

Re: RW wants to explore his options
If they don't want to trade him, it puts pressure on them to change their mind, because they risk him playing out his contract and walking away. WHICH, is stupid, because I think they actually save money by franchise tagging him twice. That means we get three years to find his replacement.
I wouldn't swear by that, but it seems someone in here did the math last year, and based on the contract it would more than likely take to keep him, they would save money by not extending him and tagging him twice.

"The Russell Wilson era seems likely headed for some kind of ending in Seattle. If Wilson was upset last offseason, nothing that happened this year can have improved his disposition. He was under pressure as much as ever, the scheme was doing little to help and he suffered the first significant injury of his NFL career.
Wilson has been an excellent quarterback for the team, but the Seahawks' roster is now bad enough that even he can’t drag them to the playoffs every year. If he wants out, Seattle needs a new answer, because Geno Smith isn’t taking over."
I still think they should pursue Huntley.
