Wild. I was watching an Andy Griffith show last night from the mid 60s and Opie was running around with a football helmet and football and I was wondering what football players he would have idolized back then and my first thought was Dick Butkus. That was only 11 years before I idolized Zorn and Largent. 11 years ago was 2012, RWs rookie season.

I have never seen anyone tackle like he did just pummeling a guy into the ground like the guy just hit is mother in the face.

Maybe Witherspoon has that in him...

Show some respect. The least you could do is spell his name correctly.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Butkus.

Not one of my heroes but a damned good player. He played hurt a lot and just ignored the pain while inflicting that pain on opposing players. R.I.P. Mr. Butkus. Enjoy playing on that All-Pro team in heaven!

I'm sure you all remember that not-very-good television series from the 80s called Blue Thunder that featured both Butkus and Bubba Smith. Smith was a heck of a football player as well. And he died in 2011 at age 66.
