They had character concerns about Carter, but were willing to draft McDowell and Clark and trade for Harvin?

Not sure you can compare them all in a vacuum like that. I doubt that Carter is the first or last player they might pass on because of questions about character. And, of the three you mentioned, two of them were pretty huge failures. I mean, Percy made some plays, but I don't think the Super Bowl season changes any without him, and we might have kept Golden Tate. Carter not only cost us his pick, but the picks we lost trying to replace him. Which? I guess you could say the same for not drafting Carter since we went after another DT later as well.

I guess long story short, I imagine those types of decisions don't boil down to just the three other examples you mentioned.

Maybe McDowell and Harvin made them gun shy.

If Carroll drafted Witherspoon because he saw an Illinois plate in a drive-thru, then I guess we know what we're dealing with.

5’11 181 pound corner who is a hitter. Who would ever guess he’d get hurt being a hitter. Now missing game 2 in 14 games. And picking him cost a second trying to get a replacement for not picking a DT. Witherspoon is a super good player. But, already missing games. His frame and style will most likely keep getting banged up like this year.

Still rather have Carter than Spoon. But, better to have Spiinnthsn Tyree Wilson. Wow that dudes bad.
