This article sums it up nicely. He couldn't play at the level he was accustomed to.

Good for him. Left a lot of coin on the table. Something Jamal Adams or Haniger would never do.

The coach indicated Williams’ decision was not related to his reconstructed knee from his surgery last winter, after he final game playing two seasons for the Miami Dolphins in December 2023. “Yeah, personal reasons. That’s right,” Macdonald said.
Find that hard to believe. So the injury had nothing to do with his level of play. Just lost it at the age of 27.

Murph at Top Billin' thinks Williams was going to get cut and the Hawks just allowed him to retire as a courtesy. If Williams wasn't happy with how he was playing and given the Hawks have the trigger ready on making personnel moves mid-stream, that's probably likely.

He likes what Olu did last week. I'm rooting for Big Olu.

The problem with Oluwatimi and Bradford is that they are just slow of foot and can't get to the next level on run plays. They will both likely be gone or riding the bench next year because McDonald prefers more athletic O linemen.

It doesn't matter if they are slow of foot when they give Charbonnet the ball, though. He might be even slower than Olu and Bradford.
