I just realized i posted a table with that same metric in the post mortem thread. I don't get though why 2.5 seconds is the best way to judge who wins the pass rush/block scenario. It seems to me there is more to it than that, like maintaining a clean pocket. If, for example, an interior lineman stays engaged with the defender he's blocking for over 2.5 seconds but gets pushed backwards thereby forcing the QB to either backpedal or roll out then i would call that a win for the pass rusher.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 1:06 amThey are doing it, the data is being collected, comes down to developing ways to analyse it
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/383 ... yers-teamsESPN Analytics created revolutionary new metrics to measure performance in the trenches -- in both the run and pass game -- using player tracking data from NFL Next Gen Stats.
Our pass rush win rate metric tells us how often a pass-rusher is able to beat his block within 2.5 seconds. Likewise, our pass block win rate metric conveys the rate linemen can sustain their blocks for 2.5 seconds or longer

Re: Playoffs
PFF has built an impressive organization, currently it's producing in demand content. What I meant was I don't think it's the future. It's labor intensive and time consuming, which makes it expensive, handmade analytics. Next Generation is in it's infancy, what's limiting it is coming up with ways to utilize the immense amount of data they are going to be able to generate. If I was investing in a football analytics business it wouldn't be the one with guys sitting in the stands taking notes.
What PPF has accomplished is impressive, but it's truly a buggy whip approach. I feel bad about it in a way, seeing humans being taken out of the equation, but it's going to happen and probably pretty quickly, unless PFF can adopt and find a nitch. On top of this PFF management is supposedly falling apart

I don’t like playing teams with talent that have noting to lose. That offense is loaded. Maybe Rodgers is injured and that is the problem, but that RB and both WRs would start for us! And that’s not me knocking K9, DK or JSN.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 1:35 amA trap game implies the Seahawks looking past the jets. Honestly at this point if MM allows the Seahawks to play down to the jets I am questioning his ability to coach a football team

Maybe they'll end up having to outsource the grading jobs to workers in Cambodia or Botswana.
If i was going to start up some business enterprise to analyze football play i would begin with just taking overhead video and using AI to analyze how well a pocket was maintained on pass plays and how much space was opened up on run plays. You would think that wouldn't be too expensive an undertaking with the amount of processing power available now.

Kinda seems like your point, adding up the individual grades to grade the line doesn't make sense

Yeah, I wouldn't call it a trap game, the odds are even. A trap game would mean the Seahawks are viewed as easily beating them. The Seahawks aren't that goodMichael K. wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 4:28 pmI don’t like playing teams with talent that have noting to lose. That offense is loaded. Re: Playoffs
After this last game, I can't see how anyone thinks this team can beat anyone in the playoffs. This team is the biggest mirage team there is.
Re: Playoffs
The over under at the beginning of the season was 7.5. I said that was idiotic. Looks like they will easily get the over now but I can't believe how they have got here. Just ran a simulator at Pro Football Network and it has us finishing at 11-6 and a 3 seed. lol

Steelers tie a NFL record with their 21st straight non-losing season. Jets now have had 9 straight losing seasons

It pays off to play soft after you get paid off and pray oft on your day off that you'll make the playoffs before getting laid off.
