That could be an interesting target, 28
.Following the conclusion of their season on Monday night, the Seattle Seahawks have turned in a request to interview one of the Minnesota Vikings top young assistants for their vacant offensive coordinator position.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Seattle requested to speak with Minnesota assistant offensive coordinator/assistant quarterback coach Grant Udinski

Kubiak seems like a good fit
. Employing a pro style scheme with obvious ties to the Shanahan system, Kubiak would check off many of the boxes Macdonald wants from his coordinator, as he has a proven track record of building efficient run games and explosive passing attacks that create problems for opponents dealing with receivers in space when he has the right personnel to do so. Having previously coached in Denver and San Francisco, he could be trusted with the autonomy Macdonald covets from a play caller as well.

Re: New OC thread
O Line expert....or is he? They were talking him up on Wyman and Bob the other day, and then Bob says "well, it should be noted that he has four first round picks and a third round pick on his O Line." I'm not sure we have used four first round picks on O Lineman the entire time JS has been here, let alone had four of them on one line. Must be nice. If he is smart? Fraley will run as far from this as he can. I remember hearing about what a O Line genius Tom Cable was too. His reputation wasn't quite that great when he left.douche wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 5:11 pmSEA is interviewing Hank Fraley.

One hopes that a great coach can extract the most from his players. But even the best coach can't make chicken soup out of chicken sh*t.

OL cap numbers are MISLEADING
Understand the SALARY CAP before you TWEET

Though the Seahawks do pinch pennies on the offensive line, equating their 2024 cap number directly to poor results is a FALSE EQUIVALENCE that requires more context. These are cap-related facts that you MUST know before you continue reading:
Some of the BEST OL in the NFL are cheap
Many of the WORST OL are overpaid
Teams often LOWER cap numbers, which doesn’t make the player cheaper
One season cap numbers ≠ INVESTMENTS
The Seahawks could come back with the exact same offensive line in 2025, same players = more expensive, but that doesn’t guarantee the offensive line will be better. Seattle could copy the Panthers — they overpaid and have $91 million (!!) going to OL next year — and maybe the Seahawks could become the next worst team.
So when I see Seahawks fans buying into reporting like this, I want to add context:

And they aren't being cheap, there's a cap to contend with. Yeah I've had issues with the oline but it's not like they are the jets or Giants or the old Redskins. They need to find the correct formula but I don't find it outrageous that they will.

What part of the past makes you believe that? The closest I could find in Google for something showing the O Line rankings since Schneider has been here was this older tweet...from an article after the Rams loss.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 9:11 pmThey need to find the correct formula but I don't find it outrageous that they will.
That showed 9 seasons, never better than 18th. That is only pass blocking though.Seahawks' rank in pass block grade during Russell Wilson's career, starting with 2012:
19
30
25
30
32 (!!)
30
18
30
20
If you're scoring at home, that's FIVE seasons with a bottom-3 offensive line.
Russell Wilson absolutely has the right to be frustrated

Danny O'Neil suggest we've never been good under John.

Good Lord, what about watching John Schneider Seahawk teams makes you think it'll get fixed? They'll fire another OC, that's for sure...but actually build a good O Line? I have zero faith in that. The problem is much more systemic: Under John Schneider, the Seahawks have been habitually unwilling to invest in continuity along the offensive line. They’ve been willing to draft guys, having used 25 picks on offensive linemen in Schneider’s 15 drafts as GM. They just haven’t been willing to pay to keep them. Justin Britt, a second-round pick in 2014, is the only offensive lineman drafted by Schneider who the team signed to a multi-year extension to stay. Usually, they wind up going somewhere else and Seattle fills that spot with either a veteran who’s on the back nine of his career or another young player working to get a foothold. Rinse, lather, repeat.

The formula I was referring to was more than just the Oline, the cap is a formula. My belief stems from a certain amount of past success generally, they aren't the Dan Snyder and the Redskins

The "formula" worked in the perfect storm. Rookie QB contract, Beastmode at RB, the best defense in the NFL and a league that hadn't adapted to that style of defense. Not only do we no longer have any of that, you also can't even play defense that way since the League basically changed the game because of the LOB.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 10:10 pmThe formula I was referring to was more than just the Oline, the cap is a formula. Since then? It's won football games, but just enough to barely miss or barely make the playoffs and have a middle of the road draft pick. It isn't getting them over the hump, and it won't. It certainly won't get them over the hump playing the style their HC seems to want to play. They HAVE to have a better O Line to make that happen. Since that seems nearly impossible, I guess we have to hope that the fifth or sixth new OC is finally the answer?
The funniest part about that formula? They have never even attempted to go back to the very first part of it. Rookie QB contract. Rumors of Mahomes, this QB, that QB...but they have never once tried to replicate that. He thinks he can keep going cheap on the O Line, and not save $ at QB, but it will still all be fine. Doesn't have Bevell, Cable or PC to scapegoat anymore. Firing Grubb worked though. All anyone talks about is how the new OC will fix the O Line. No one is mentioning how he hasn't done Jack or Shit to fix the O Line.
