Makes a lot of sense.trharder wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 3:47 amI agree, but it seems certain QBs get treated differently. Teams were able to abuse Raplesburger and Newton, for example. I think it's more of a human unconscious bias thing. Other QBs get full advantage of the QB protection rules. As for fans, it's confirmation bias at work. When you are sick of Mahomes winning, every call is proof of the conspiracy.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 2:50 amThe calls were dogshit but there is zero chance the NFL tells the officials to be biased against one team or another. An official could just become a whistle blower figuratively instead of literally go to the media, write a book and make 10s of millions.....NFL isn't going to risk $20B in revenues because they like Taylor Swift. It is preposterous.

Exactly my point. I slept like baby last night. I doubt a single one of their fans did unless they got completely wasted before bed time like I did after the nightmare SB.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 5:34 amI think it was worse for them. This is the best team they've had in 70 years or so, their fans have been waiting all their lives for this, and then THAT happened. I turned on the game, saw the score at 45-28 and they were panning through the crowd. Sports are so cruel sometimes.Michael K. wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 4:37 amI'd rather lose a second round playoff game than have ten wins and stay home. One team needs help to get over the hump, and had a middle of the road draft pick. The other actually had some bad luck to not advance, and ends up with a better pick that they should have.
I get what you are saying about right at this moment. But this is one night. It's no Super Bowl XL, it's not second and goal. I'd rather be a Lion fan right now.

Regarding Lions:
Tom Brady made a good point during the broadcast about how teams don't necessarily build and improve after every season. There are a lot of changes that happen that makes each season more of a reset.
Lions will lose Ben Johnson probably. Maybe that's big or not. Personally, I think I would be an amazing OC if I had such a perfectly balanced offense as the Lions. The two RBs, great pass-catching TE, and perfect mix of receivers...
But... He's a consensus pick to be a head coach somewhere.
Their window may be closed. You subtract any from Gibbs/Montgomery/LaPorta/Williams/St Brown; maybe it goes to hell. I don't know anything about their offensive line, but any changes there and it messes things up, etc...
Notice I didn't mention Goff. I classify him just like I classify Purdy. I think they are extremely average, but in a great situation. First read is covered, fling it to Gibbs/McCaffrey and enjoy your 15 yard "pass."

Guessing there are a few fans in SF that would agree. Would you have rather been a 49er fan or a Hawks fan before going to sleep after the SB a year ago.Millikin wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 6:16 amRegarding Lions:

That moment was worst for them that what we weren’t through this year, no doubt. But no worse than the way they lost last year. They’ll still be fine by today or a few days, and certainly have a much brighter future.
Re: Round two Playoffs thread
I'm well aware of that, and you are correct. My point is that the game (and your season) is over. So go for it on 4th down.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 2:46 amfyi if they made the FG it would have been a one score game.douche wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 8:23 pmThe missed field goal by the Texans is downright hysterical. You're in the playoffs, down 23-12, it's 4th and 14 so you decide to settle for a field goal because, hey, we're going to lose anyway so we may as well lose by 3 fewer points, and field goals are easy.
But it ends up being blocked, so you walk away with no points. Just pathetic.
To be fair, they did get 2 more points after the Chiefs gifted them the safety.

It's true. And I think you're right when you say that their window may be closed.

They were missing six defensive starters in that last game and Goff had a terrible game. I don't think their window is shut, but they have some work to do since they will be replacing both Coordinators most likely.

It's going to be tough, you just can't let opportunities like this get away because things can change really fast.Michael K. wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 8:05 pmThey were missing six defensive starters in that last game and Goff had a terrible game. If there was a Seahawk equivalent, in 1983 they went 9-7, made the playoffs and advanced all the way to the AFC Championship Game, In 1984 they started off 12-2 despite losing Curt Warner in the opener, but then got smoked in their last two games and after winning the wild card game got smoked in the second round of the playoffs. Still, we were getting Warner back the next season so the team had a bright future, right?
Nope. 8-8 in 1985, 10-6 in 1986 with no playoffs either season. We had a couple 9-7s with first-round playoff exits after that and then the '90s reared its ugly head.

Winning in the NFL is tough, no argument there. But I don't think they now have no shot. Six defensive starters back will help, is all I was saying.
