Milroe won the William V. Campbell Trophy in 2024, which is awarded each year to the college player who had the best combination of academic success, on-field performance, and leadership. The award is also widely known as the “Academic Heisman.”“Not too many people can say this, but I can say this proudly, I never lost a game back-to-back in my entire life playing football. Why I mention that is because of course you’re going to have failure, you’re going to have lessons throughout your time of playing football. It’s how you regroup and how you regroup from adversity. My theme of my whole life is next play mentality. Not leaning on failures to drive me. That’s something that’s been emphasized from my whole time of playing football.” — Milroe when asked what lessons he learned from his final season playing at Alabama.Milroe is an explosive athlete who is very capable outside the pocket, but he lacks accuracy, touch and decision-making when he’s inside the pocket. A lack of anticipation and timing leads to interceptions and contested throws to intermediate areas of the field. He has an NFL arm, but he might need to fine-tune his footwork and delivery to improve accuracy on all three levels. He can get through his reads when he’s confident and feels protected but becomes predictable and easier for defenses to manipulate when he’s rattled. He’s built like a Will linebacker, runs like a receiver and is a threat to hit the home run on called runs and scrambles. Milroe was a much better deep-ball passer in 2023, but his 2024 regression makes it harder to project success from the pocket at a high enough rate to become a capable NFL starter. A strong arm and elite speed will have teams intrigued, but if he doesn’t make it as a starter, it’s incumbent upon his team to find a way to get the ball in his hands with packaged plays.” — NFL.com

For all the stuff people latch onto, hand size has got to be the craziest.Cascade Kid wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 1:20 amSuper Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes 9 and 1/4 inches. Milroe 9 and 3/8 inches.
Dak has some of the largest hands in the league and lead the league in fumbles twice.

I've been watching as many highlights of Milroe as I can, and I have to tell you. To me, it looks like his throwing mechanics really suck, so much so that he reminds me of Tim Tebow when he came out of college. I am not impressed by what I see. At least Russell, you could immediately tell he knew how to throw a football and throw it with accuracy and strength. Milroe looks like he's throwing a football three times heavier than normal.D-train wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 4:47 pmFor all the stuff people latch onto, hand size has got to be the craziest.Cascade Kid wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 1:20 amSuper Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes 9 and 1/4 inches. That's from Reddit seems impressiveJalen Milroe had a 96.9 passing grade on 20+ yard throws last season according to PFF, the highest grade among returning QBs

From some Alabama reddits:

I'm sure it's been said but throwing mechanics isn't the biggest thing JM needs to correct. It's processing the game in a timely manner and making the correct reads and throws.
This x100. While true that Milroe needs to continue to refine his mechanics (no, not an expert, but google Jordan Rodgers and Matt Wyatt on Milroe and they go deep into it, and those are guys who know) what he really has to do, is do everything about 2x as fast as he does currently. He was way down at the bottom, among the slowest in D1 football, in getting the ball out of his hands last year, and the play calls were designed for him to have options that were much faster. I don't know the root cause, but even when he's throwing against air and not having to process and read the D, he simply doesn't get the ball out quickly. There is (or was when the analysis was done) a tiny bit of slop in his arm motion, according to Wyatt, but not enough to cause the issue we are seeing so it's really something else causing a great deal of the slow time to get the ball away. It was even evident, as I pointed out, in the clip that started this thread. that throw should have been out in 2-2.2 seconds, and Milroe was at 3.6+. That's a MASSIVE difference as a WR is going to be 10 yards further into a pattern (so probably not as likely to be open), or gives a DB the ability to pretty much close any open window that was opened up by a WR on a break in a route.

When I watched him against Michigan in the Semi Final, I was pretty amazed at the hype for him. As a passer, he just wasn't good, and I agree. The decision making was poor. I remember saying at the time that DeBoer was in for a surprise if he thought he was going there and having Jalen run his offense. It worked, until it didn't. Hard to say that he won't be a better fit in this offense though.

When they beat Georgia at the beginning of the season Milroe was being viewed as All World. Was that the same QB that now is so messed up? That just seems odd to me.
. Quarterback Jaden Milroe ran for two touchdowns in addition to throwing two. Milroe threw for 374 yards and ran for 117

Yeah, I mentioned that earlier. He was all the rage early on, then he wasn't. I really don't think he was a great fit for DeBoer's offense. He is way more Lamar than Penix.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 6:47 pmWhen they beat Georgia at the beginning of the season Milroe was being viewed as All World. He certainly does need work. He's up on the balls of his feet all the time which will lend to inaccuracies. I watched a video of Kurt Benkert discussing what he sees, and he pointed out that Milrose's time is off. Kurt believes that his drop steps are a little slow which leads to miss timed routes. Sure, there are other things that can be better, just like any other QB out there since none are perfect. But it's difficult to deny his upside.XpertDBA wrote: ↑Mon Apr 28, 2025 5:53 pmI've been watching as many highlights of Milroe as I can, and I have to tell you.
