As a third-round pick, Haynes wasn't picked to be a starter immediately and won't be handed the job. However, he will be given a chance to earn it. Bradford didn't impress during his stint as a starter in 2023 and that battle will wage during training camp, especially with Curtis seeing the bulk of first-team reps in the offseason program and surfacing as a viable third competitor. Offering the highest floor and ceiling, Haynes should be viewed as the front runner to earn the starting right guard job from day one and play well during his rookie campaign, but he will have to get off to a quick start in training camp to do so.

Need to figure in cost
. Because he missed his rookie season, Taylor was a restricted free agent instead of an unrestricted free agent, which is what allowed Seattle to keep him for $3 million. That’s why he’s a bargain for right now, why not see if the new coaching staff can make him more valuable for that price? He’s better than any edge rusher you’re going to get in free agency with that price
He sucked last year. And even if he was worth more than $3 mil he isn't better than Nwosu or Mafe so why should he be listed with starters? Reed is almost certain to get more snaps.

Heck, Derrick Hall should probably get more snaps than Taylor this year.

Use the 1-10 scale or, if you prefer, you may substitute the following exclamations:

10) Yabba Dabba Doo
9) Cowabunga
8) Shazam
7) Hey hey hey
6) I yam what i yam
5) Zoinks
4) Yowsers
3) Hardy-har-har
2) Sufferin' Succotash
1) Heavens to Murgatroyd

These are the position groups:

From your ratings i will extrapolate the Seahawks likely win-loss record. I may also make some snazzy bar graphs of your entries.
These are the position groups:

QB 6) I yam what i yam
RB 7) Hey hey hey
WR 9.5) Cowayaba DOooo
TE 7) Hey hey hey
OL 5) Zoinks
DL 8) Shazam
Edge 7) Hey hey hey
LB 5) Zoinks
DB 6) I yam what i yam
ST 7) Hey hey hey

I really like the WR. And they brought in a really good depth piece Laviska Shenault Jr. 6'1" 225# In his 1st two years he gained over 600 yards in both and got a 71.5 PFF grade his rookie year. He then got traded and begun being a hybrid RB/WR which we have been looking for. In 2022 he got an 85 PFF score.
That makes for a good niche player.
Top 3 Metcalf, T-Lock, Jaxon SN,

But the backups are not bad either (Bobo, Shenault, Dee, Young)

I computed the cumulative grades of each position group based on individual grades and snap counts. I don't have PFF's special teams rankings at hand but i found one from Sports Illustrated that has the Seahawks tied for 15th and 16th place. Here is the link:
https://www.si.com/nfl/packers/packers- ... s-rankings
I would thus assign a grade of 70 for ST.

The problem is how to interpret the grading numbers from PFF in order to translate them to a comparative scale since i don't have grades for other teams' units. While the grade for an average NFL player is 60, the grade for an average starter is in the 70s according to this breakdown:
https://dfshub.com/pro-football-focus-p ... er-grades/
Since the majority of snaps go to starters, then calculating an overall grade for a unit should result in an average grade that is somewhere between the overall average of 60 and the starter average of ~75. 70 seems like a reasonable number to go with. So here were the grades...

QB 81.2
RB 81.4
WR 71.5
TE 60.2
OL 60.8
DL 65.8
LB 62.7
CB 65.4
S 70.0
ST 70.0

These grades indicate that while there may have been more talent on the offensive side, the D coaches got more out of their units, as PFF graded both the SH offense and defense as middle of the pack.

Anyway, if we say the range of grades is 40 to 100, then the scales would line up as follows...

40.0 <--> 1
46.7 <--> 2
53.3 <--> 3
60.0 <--> 4
66.7 <--> 5
73.3 <--> 6
80.0 <--> 7
86.7 <--> 8
93.3 <--> 9
100.0 <--> 10

Thus, i would convert the above position grades to the following comparative ratings...

QB 7.2
RB 7.2
WR 5.7
TE 4.0
OL 4.1
DL 4.9
LB 4.4
CB 4.8
S 5.5
ST 5.5

Does anyone see any flaws in that approach. I had to make some assumptions regarding PFF grades and how other teams' position groups would score on average. The main problem is that none of these advanced football analysis websites provide position group rankings. And PFF says that their overall rankings of offense and defense involve more than individual player grades but also incorporate coaching and teamwork.

So now all that remains is to see which prediction set most closely matches the following graph. Since the magnitude of values was scaled on my assumption of what an average PFF position grade would be (i.e. 70) which in turn was based on my assumption of what an average starter's grade would be (i.e. 75) tempered by a rough estimate of the percentage of player snaps that went to backups and what the average grades of those backups would be there is a significant probability that my estimates are too high or too low across the board. Thus, it is likely more useful to find the best match with regard to relative bar heights (position to position) than to tabulate the sum of deviations.

After a sober review of all entries and several moments of solemn contemplation, i am now proud to be able to announce the final results of the 2024 Seattle Seahawks Position Group Ratings prediction contest.

And the winner is...
