R.I.P. Kenny Easley

Post by rockycola » Sun Nov 16, 2025 12:54 am

Only 66 y.o., the "Enforcer" is gone too soon.
Before the Legion of Boom, there was Kenny Easley. I met him a couple of times.
Kenny Easley, the former hard-hitting Seattle Seahawks safety and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, died Friday evening. He was 66.

Easley spent his entire seven-year career with Seattle. He made five Pro Bowls, earned first-team All-Pro honors three times and was named AFC Defensive Player of the Year in 1984. Nicknamed "The Enforcer" for his physical style of play, Easley was a member of the 1980s All-Decade Team and was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 2017.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Seahawks Legend Kenny Easley," the team said in a statement. "Kenny embodied what it meant to be a Seahawk through his leadership, toughness, intensity, and fearlessness. His intimidating nature and athletic grace made him one of the best players of all-time."

My favorite Seahawk back in the days when I sat with my family every home game in our 200 level Kingdome seats for 20 years starting with 1976. He was the first guy other teams feared in our franchise history. RIP 45.

his life cut short just as his playing days were. truly the first star player for the franchise - coin flip with Ronnie Lott for the NFL's best safety prior to Ed Reed and the LOB.

Interestingly enough, Easley (nicknamed The Enforcer) "was the first player in the history of Virginia high school football to rush and pass for over 1,000 yards in a single season, and was named as an all-state and All-American selection at quarterback." Quarterback!

Dude had athletic talent.

Side note: remember Jim Thorpe? Insane athletic ability.

Yeah, these guys tend to be the premiere athletes in their regions growing up. I thought Darnold had a interesting background going by his wiki in that regard.

He was a notable basketball player, basically all state in California
Darnold was rated by Rivals.com as a four-star recruit and was ranked as the eighth best dual-threat quarterback in his class and 179th best player overall. However, Darnold did not have much footage of him performing at recruiting camps, preferring to show his play in games. As a result, San Clemente head football coach Jaime Ortiz elected to provide video of his basketball career to football coaches
And that seems pretty wild
USC defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox, who recruited Darnold to the school, wanted him to play linebacker before he declined.
