Good it will be appropriate when they both get shit canned for messing up this offseason.
I don't 100% agree with you or 100% disagree with you.
When Clowney went into the offseason he is on record as wanting to be the highest paid non-QB in the league. Frank Clark signed a 5 year 105.5 with 63.5 guaranteed. the average is 21.1 M. They have brought him down from 5/110 or more maybe with 70 guaranteed to 17-18 for a 1 year. NOw just like they did with Russ when they brought in Brown they can move the money around from salary to bonus and spread it over the remainder. You see the logic in their approach. You never know when the next Brown, Clowney, Dunbar type of opportunity might present itself. ( No let's not think about Percy)
NOw, at this point, I am 100% with you on just f-it and sign him to a 17 Million dollar 1 year and come back to this again next year with more cap dollars and maybe we get a comp pick or resign our stud Edge. The difference between the 13.5 they have on the table and 17 is a pretty small price to pay. There is plenty of fat to cut on this team even after KJ and Britt.
Even some of the moves I like were a bit of an overpay Adding Olsen according to sporttrack he is worth 5.3M but because he was a no free agent we bid 6.9 a slight overpay but not unforgivable.
Q Dunbar was a really good player to pick up for a 5th at a position of need.
Reed was needed he team with Ford as a solid DT team
Luke Wilson a 4th TE ( I don't have salary info but should be minimal) I am luke warm here.
Phil Dorsett WR a decent 4.3 40 speedster for 3rd 4th 5th on depth chart1 M
center Hunt, D end Jackson, and WR Moore were resigned for 2.1 million and I don't think Hunt is worth it I am 50/50 on Jackson and Moore.
Simmons Guard resigned for $?
Irvin and (Mayowa 3 million 2.5 dead cap if cut) I don't know what Irvin's contract is. The position is in deep need. Given my wish to now get Clowney signed and add an edge with one of the top 4 picks I would project a much-improved defense over last year. ( If I had 1 wish other than the draft turning out like one of the better simulated ones/ and of course Clowney)
LJ Collier must improve dramatically. NOt a star but at least show that he can contribute as part of the rotation. He has 8 million of dead cap hit. So if he can even be what Rasheem Green was last year that would be a good sign to say the least.
I think you and Mike are primarily are up in arms over the less than impressive O-line additions. Am I right or completely off base?
Let's look:
BJ Finney C/G 2 Year 7M 4.5 dead cap.
( Alternate cutting Fluker insurance) Britt=8.5 in freed up cap and Fluker is 3.6M with 500k dead cap.
Another poster pointed out that BJ was very good at pass blocking I don't know which metric but I was pleased because of Russel and premium targets at the skill positions.
Brandon Shell T 2Year 11M 5.1 dead cap
[I looked to PFF grades and he looks like a 10 point upgrade compared to Ifedi. I did not think Ifedi was good.]
( you countered with contrary data) I wish you would provide links. { draft ranks I have seen players rank 60 spots apart but I would like to explore what you look at.)
Cedric Ogbuehi T former 1st Rd #21// 2.2 M 500K dead cap
Last year he was a backup but a decent pff grade of 67 vs largely 50's which again is Ifedi. I think you have a 500K cap hit for a lottery pick at late development.
Chance Warmack 1st Rd # 10 ( 7 snaps last 2 years)
He looked like a potential all-pro at guard 1st 3 years 2 70's and an 80's PFF
910K no dead cap
There are moves I like (Dunbar) moves I am neutral on (WR Moore), and moves I am against (Hunt).
But the whole shit-canned thing is nonsense.
