NBA Centers are similar to. QBs in that teams would take more chances for them, particularly so in the past. The game, indeed, changed and while Wilt and Kareem would still be forces, they wouldn't be as dominant now as they were.
That's about sone bullshit.
Care to justify that? Do you think Kareem, if he was on today's NBA would still wind up with the most points in NBA history? He'd still be unguardable, one on one, but there are more good mobile 7 footers tan there were 40-50 years ago. The prevalence of the three pointer in the modern game would also lessen the importance of a dominant big man.
Era to era comparisons are always speculative, but I don't think I'm saying anything all that radical.
No there isnt. There were many more in Kareem's career than one. Three pointer is a game changer but they barely even play defense anymore. If there was a dominant big man now with the skill of Wilt or Kareem it would be unstoppable.

I think Akeem is an an underrated big man. That dude could move.

This has him #5. I guess that is about right.

Wally's boys, Petro, McIIvaine, Sene, Swift, Booth round out the bottom 5 of all time.

I would put Hakeem and Shaq over Wilt and Kareem.

Not a chance. I watched an older Kareem outplay Hakeem. He was something to watch though

Nice try, but they played a fair number of games against each other being in same conference.

Some stats:

MVP: Kareem 6 Hakeem 1
Finals MVP: Kareem 2 Hakeem 2
Defensive Player of the Year: Kareem 0 Hakeem 2
ROY: Kareem 1 Hakeem 0
All Star selections: Kareem 19 Hakeem 12

Points: Kareem 38387 (24.6) Hakeem 26946 (21.8)
Rebounds: Kareem 17440 (11.2) Hakeem (11.1) 13748
Assists: Kareem 5660 (3.5) Hakeem 3058 (2.5)
Blocks: Kareem 3197 (2.6) Hakeem 3830 (3.1) *blocks were not kept as a stat for the first 4 years of Kareem's career - total would be higher, (4100?) avg about the same.
Win Shares: Kareem 273.4 Hakeem 162.8 - WS/48 Kareem .228 Hakeem .177

Come on, you really think Chamberlain could average 50 points and 25 rebounds a game over a season if he played today, see a 100 point game again? Nobody is going to dominate basketball the way he did in 1962, including him

And Kareem didn't dominate Hakeem every game. The stats you posted are meaningless. Kareem was playing a full decade before Olajuwan

He'd probably average twice that against these weenies today.

Hakeem Olajuwon had a stretch where he was as dominate as any player ever, he certainly is in the class as Jabbar. And to think he grew up in another country, didn't play basketball until he was 15, unbelievable athlete
