Hopefully he will be doing the same!
:) didn't even realize he was a WR.
Still can't believe we drafted a guy out of a school called Rhyne Lenoir. He was one of about 700 dudes on campus. lol
Lenoir-Rhyne University has a total undergraduate enrollment of 1,783 (fall 2020), with a gender distribution of 41% male students and 59% female students.
Kyle Dugger of the Patriots also from Lenoir-Rhyne. Safety. Second round choice a few year back.

Media types giving a letter "grade" to an NFL team's draft picks is one of the most ridiculous thing I can think of.
It would be like a pie making contest where the judges evaluated before the pie was baked and tasted.

O Lineman pick rational
We have two mediocre QBs and likely the none of the QBs in the draft would have been better....especially in 2022. So they pick the best pass blocking Tackles in the draft with their 1st and fourth picks. This could turn a below average to mediocre QB into a pretty good one.

D Lineman pick rational
Let Dunlap, Hyder, Benson and Green walk so desperately needed to bolster the pass rush. Did just that with our second pick and 5th round pick. They now have 5 pretty good pass rushers with the two new draft picks, the FA and Robinson and Taylor.

RB pick rational
If we don't draft a RB we could be down to Homer and Dallas after a handful of plays if CC can't come back and Penny injuries himself on the 1st series of game 1. Had to pick a RB. Why not pick the best one in the draft. They did that.

CB pick rational
Had to bolster the CB room with the departure of Reed and only being left with Jones, a second year guy that flashed but has minimal experience and now Coleman. Went with a CB that literally won the award giving to the best DB in the country. Obviously he is far less touted than Stingley who is a boom or bust option and his fellow Bearcat CB but has a very high floor, has great ball skills (something sorely lacking) and will likely start game 1. Complemented that with a complete Freak show athletic talent similar to DK and will try to follow in Sherm's footstep. Massive upside.

WR pick rational
With DK and Lockett as our 1 and 2 they realized this was a lesser priority so waited until the final rounds to take these two. One small fast guy that could be a great returner and some kid out of nowhere that they liked more than all the UDFAs out there. These guys are also DK insurance if they can't work out a deal.

Not drafting TEs Safeties or DT rational
All the lowest priorities after trading for Fant, resigning Dissly at TE, locking up Adams and Diggs at S and trading for Harris, signing Jefferson, resigning Woods and already having Ford Mone in place.

My grade: A+++

To an extent but these guys have track records. I would have graded about the past 5 Hawk drafts about a D on average and would have been right.

they have track records to show they're consistently clueless. Especially Kiper. Kiper doesn't understand the draft, which is exactly what I want. If he hates it, it's good. I'm more confident after reading that.

I am firmly in the "we need a better QB" camp, but there weren't any QBs that were better, and for once we didn't reach. We picked the best player available AND filled positions of need. Let's see what Lock and Geno can do, and if they suck, we'll have a nice pick next year to get that guy. (Also note that my guy Foles got released, sooooooo)

If anybody doesn't understand why we'd want the best RB in the country when our #1 and 2 RBs are constantly injured just isn't paying attention. Even if they have a great year, both will need to be replaced in a year.

Remember that we basically got nothing out of Eskridge and Tre Brown last year, but they both looked good when healthy, so we're adding even MORE young talent, and the team went from aging and slow to young and fast really quick. This season may not be great for wins and losses, but the future is looking good. If you get a team with one or two holes to fill, then you can make some big moves in trades or free agency - if these picks work out, that's where we are.

I meant the players have track records and while there are always unexpected busts and player taken late that have an impact its not crazy to try to grade a draft the day after.

Much of the draft was conducted under the watchful eye of team chair Jody Allen, who was seen sitting front and center in the team’s war room during the first round Thursday, with the organization able to again have a full building after the relaxing of COVID-19 restrictions that altered the drafts the past two years.

“She was a blast,” Schneider said. “She was into it.”

After last year’s 7-10 record, she had every reason to be, hoping the moves made over the weekend — and the past few months — will help the team reverse course in 2022.

Good post.
I'm curious to revisit what young 2nd and 3rd year players might step up with the "re-build".
This team could be fun to watch the next two years, even if the W/L ratio is frustrating.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this team sneak into the playoffs at 9-8. Maybe even shock the world and win a playoff game like they did in 2010 when they finished. 8-10

hehe I wouldn't be surprised if they are deciding to tank this year to get another top ten draft pick next year to choose one of those QB's coming out of next years class instead of this one. They obviously thought this years class sucked and wanted nothing to do with any of them. Carroll is saying Smith is ahead of Lock right now in terms of the QB competition, lol. Neither is a good QB. Its going to be a long year and I think they quietly want it that way.

Now all we need is for rw to blow out a knee in his first game and we can have 2 picks in the top 10, lol.
