In baseball, there's less domination. It's a luckier, flukier game. If you make the post-season, you can go on a little run and win it all. The Phillies just made consecutive runs where they beat the Braves in the post season and the Braves won like 20 more regular season games. This is like a #6 beating a #1 in the NFL, which basically never happens. If you want to make a Bowl run, you pretty much have to be one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the NFL. I get it that we are not the Mariners, but it is funny that my two favorite teams have a fan base that are infatuated with salaries. Every other team in the NFL makes moves and everyone is like "how the fuck can they do that with the salary cap!?" When is the last time we ever wondered how we would make that move based on the salary cap? The poor Rams, two NFC Titles and one Super Bowl ring since we were last even in an NFCCG, and are just as good as we are right now. BUT, BUT, the salary cap, they will be in Salary Cap hell, remember? Just wait, it'll happen. Who cares!? That is the same BS that fans backing the Mariner FO are saying about Texas right now. Fine, stink for a year or two. The only reason the Rams stunk was Stafford got hurt. Sound familiar? How good were we when Russ got hurt? You miss every shot you don't take, and this team has taken a few shots (Harvin, Graham, Adams, Williams and Richardson), but they haven't been good ones. They don't have great aim I guess.
The NFL is designed for parity. It takes a special kind of failure to lose for 10 years straight and not reap the benefits of salary cap cuts, draft position, and softer schedules. On the flip it makes it a lot harder to create a dynasty. Also the fact that winning gets pretty hard if you don't have a good QB. The importance of that single position is very unique to the sport. Closest thing might be goalies in soccer and NHL, but it's still not really comparable.
I would say that the Hawks are trying harder to win than the Mariners simply because of the salary cap. There is no effort level associated with spending, it's more about spending wisely. The Mariners aren't trying to build a juggernaut. They're trying to build a team that can compete for a post season spot and then go on a run. The Seahawks had the Legion of Boom.
If the NFL had no salary cap, then the Seahawks might look like the Mariners, and Pete might've never agreed to coach, because it's impossible to outspend the Cowboys.
