Just saw he is finally back for MNF in a week.auroraave wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 2:22 pmI donlt thing it has anything to do with allowing teams to burn clock or getting to the 4th quarter - it's about minimizing the risk of the big plays downfield and forcing the offense to execute. when you get closer to the goal line those routes don't exist. No one wants to lose the TOP battle. Better to give up a FG than a 60 yard TD. The problem is always staying in that base and allowing any competent QB to just make basic read-and-throw plays because you know where the mismatch is immediately - and it's almost ALWAYS going to be a TE/WR matched up on a LB. Jamal Adams may be the guy that can wreck those underneath routes with blitzes or coverage.

First thing Pete brought up at his post game presser, the fans
“What a great impact they had on this game. These guys had eight false starts … What a great factor,” Carroll said. … “That was a thrill.”
The Seahawks have a very young team with a number of rookies, and Carroll was excited they got to see how electric Lumen Field can be.
“It was a thrill for our young guys who hadn’t felt that,” he said.

So without all those false starts do we even win?

Sure, it's a different game but that doesn't mean they don't win it.

I am way more concerned with the fact that we are one of the worst teams in all of football defensively on third down. We allow almost a 60% conversion. That might be a bit of an exaggeration, because I believe Brock said 57%, but that is WAY too high. I don't think the false starts hurt nearly as much as you might think, because we just ended up giving up the third down anyway.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 2:44 pmSo without all those false starts do we even win?

Huard said that exact same thing this morning. Said he feels like QBs are simply picking on Wagner and Brooks, that part of our soft zone. I have always just HATED the fact that our LBs are so involved in coverage, and yet are always so bad at it. He agrees with you that Adams will help, and litteraly said in both the pressure package and the coverage package. There are a few in this forum that probably just threw up in their mouths when they read Adams and coverage!auroraave wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 2:22 pmThe problem is always staying in that base and allowing any competent QB to just make basic read-and-throw plays because you know where the mismatch is immediately - and it's almost ALWAYS going to be a TE/WR matched up on a LB. If Andy Dalton had been able to play his entire career against Seahawk D's under Pete Carroll he might be considered a lock for the Hall of Fame.
