Maybe pick up Clowney. Carolina cut him and MM got Clowney to play really well in Baltimore.

Maybe you didn't get the news, Captain, but the Seahawks already signed an aging, washed up OLB earlier this year and don't really have room on the roster for another.

Not sure Clowney is that hot a item these days
The flip side, which the position where I stand, is that he’s 32 years old with a very deep history of injuries that have caused him to miss time. I’d rather see that playing time allocated to the players on the roster right now. It also seems peculiar that for as much as Clowney is lauded for his disruptive pass rushing (despite the lack of a high volume of sacks) and ability to stop the run, he has been repeatedly bouncing from team to team over the past several seasons regardless of his salary.

This is the reason they threw money at MM, he's the dude, the hottest name in defenses. And what's interesting to me is these are the guys he wants. They made an effort to bring these guys back. So here we are, no excuses that his personnel doesn't fit the scheme. Murphy is being promoted as a statement pick, first pick of the MM era. He is supposed to represent the prototypical MM guy. MM's deal is complicated dline play, fakes and misdirection or whatever. I'm gonna guess he likes Murphys versatility. He did say Murphy deserves more sack opportunities. I would read that as probably less nose tackle

Sure they'll make the best of things but there's no way Macdonald wasn't hoping they would land a big body DT in the first 2 days of the draft.

Re: Grading the Draft
I think if MM really felt the need for anoher big body tackle type they would have brought somebody else in. I don't think those guys necessarily go at the top of the draft as much as lower down, or someone other than Hawkins in FA.
That's my take, the continuity is what's interesting

https://motorcyclesports.net/seahawks-d ... positions/The Seahawks’ defense has maintained a remarkable level of continuity from the previous season, with Johnathan Hankins resuming his pivotal role as nose tackle. The ensemble, which anticipates the return of all its starters with the exception of Dre’Mont Jones—now replaced by the seasoned DeMarcus Lawrence—exudes a sense of stability and readiness.

I don't see it as spin, they've kept the defense largely Intact, particularly the line. Doesn't mean It's the correct thing to do, I think it does projects confidence and that they are set. But if it doesn't work confidence isn't going to mean anything. They need to have a top ten defense. They feel they can do it with mostly the existing roster

Re: Grading the Draft
Well, maybe not spin so much as just empty rhetoric. Any washed-up vet can be described as "seasoned", a bad player at a pivotal position is generally a negative, and continuity isn't much of a plus with mediocre talent although it might help with regard to players knowing where to line up etc.
