It's a rebuild year, no doubt about it, IMO. These signings seem to indicate that to me. They aren't signing trash, but they aren't going after anything long term or expensive. I think MacDonald is more than likely shocked at the roster construction. A team that's salary cap was eaten up by three Safeties and two WRs is ridiculous. Two rather high-profile defensive players being inside LBs that aren't very good in coverage. A QB that no one else wants. A mediocre interior O Line and two RBs that are completely misused. It's not going to get fixed over night!

We'll see, but I'm not sold that this is a rebuild. To me this is an immediate retooling to stop sucking in NFC West this year and improve on 9-8.
Yeah I am not saying they are trying to lose or tank but they certainly aren't "going for it" this season either...

Well, I already bet on them, so they need to at least win the NFC Championship.

I like the Hankins signing. It gives us a nice run stuffer in the middle
I like the quiet and methodical way they have been doing things since PC got canned. They conducted a long due diligence search and patience to get the coach they ultimately wanted, then built an entirely new staff with a mix of respected veteran coaches and rising star coaches.

They cut loose the right vets to create cap space without making this look like a coaching upheaval rebuild (aka Broncos, Denver). Signed Williams, kept Tyler. Traded for Howell for basically a third-round pick, 23, with a full season of starts in Hell D.C. Then targeted specific other areas in FA on both sides of the ball, without the big must-have coveted signings like Queen and others. They are signing players -- especially on D who can fill multiple slots in different situations and schemes to confuse offenses. And maybe who are hungry for a place like Seattle, who are a Jody-mission to get back in the playoff run. They've created a lot of competition to sort out, and they've pulled all this together in a fairly brief period since PC the legend is no more.

As a VMAC friend said, "The King is Dead. Long Live the King."

I think we've done pretty well so far, with likely more Schneider cagey moves to follow into the draft. I put $100 on them this year at the sportsbook, wtf, we've got a shot, at least in March!

I don't know about that. Yes, it's nice to see them cut bait on some overpriced (or underproducing) guys, but i think they overpaid to keep Williams in order to save face on what was an ill-advised trade last year. And with all these 1-year contracts they'll be in the same boat next year with trying to fill numerous holes. What they needed was more draft stock not some mediocre veterans that will help keep them around .500 for another year.

But the cap goes up yet again, they will be younger and have more picks. Going for it this year with a lowish first round pick and no second round pick and a roster full of holes because they were Pete guys? Seems foolish to me,

One thing to remember about the cap going up is that it goes up for all teams so the net effect is just increasing salaries for all FAs as opposed to us being able to sign more or better FAs...It is basically like inflation, you have more money but everything costs more.

I was paying $15 for beers in Peoria last week. In the mid 80s I could buy a case of beer with my fake ID for $4.99. So I could have bought 72 beers for what I paid for one at the games. lol

Sure but a case of Keystone Light is still $4.99 isn't it?

I just checked, you can get a half-rack (actually 15 cans) for $12.99 at Safeway and a 30-pack at Walmart for 19.98.

It has tripled but I could still get a case for the cost of one ballpark beer.
