Gardner Minshew
Re: Gardner Minshew
I don't think we should touch Deshaun Watson with the wagonload of accusations that have been leveled against him, the picks he would cost, the hefty contract and the bad karma he would bring to a team that needs more than a pricy QB to compete again.
Also, I think he is a bad fit with PC. Despite Carroll's willingness to bring troubled players into the fold, e.g. Percy, Malik, Gordon...Aldon Smith, I'm trying to think of sometime when it has actually worked to our benefit.

Re: Gardner Minshew
Yeah, I would be fine with Huntley and a rookie over Watson.
Re: Gardner Minshew
The only problem is I doubt Pete wants to be part of a rebuild. He said he did not - that is why everyone assumes we trade for Watson. I'm 50/50 on it - I see the point as he's a good QB, ignoring his off-field stuff, and gives us a chance to win now. I like the draft picks we got now though and it would give us a shot to fill a lot of the holes we got. Its said that this is a deep draft that will do well into the 3rd round and we right now have 3 picks in the first 42 - I'd hate to trade that all away. If its really a rebuild than maybe we get more if we trade Lockett/DK.

I don't see how you trade for a QB unless you think he could be the guy. Huntley doesn't seem ready for that commitment to me. Potential, yes... but he was tendered the other day so he's not a free agent, it would require draft picks to get him.
Whatever they're going to do, I am sure they had the plan in place before making the trade. That seems like it would exclude Watson, but I'm still scared. I think they like somebody in the draft, and plan on signing a veteran free agent.

I'm in. Let's do The Shoe!
The Anti-Russell Golly Gee Whiz Aw Shucks Go Hawks. I think he is a perfect fit for a team in transition.

I'm all for Minshew but they already got Lock - unless they plan on trading him away for dirt I can't see them getting Minshew. Especially if they get Willis which i'm really hoping they don't as i'd rather use the 9th pick on an elite defensive player than having to wait again until the 2nd round to pick from the leftovers. If they get him then they will want him to sit a year and learn from Lock.

Does an elite defensive player make us a playoff team next year? I know that Willis isn’t a can’t miss, but ai feel like this is about a 5 to 8 win team depending on some player moves. I am fine with Willis sitting a year while that happens. Then use next years draft and free agent class to combine with this one to make a run.Lamda wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 5:19 amI'm all for Minshew but they already got Lock - unless they plan on trading him away for dirt I can't see them getting Minshew. What I am worried about is that we again seem to view free agency as just a time to over pay our own guys and then add scraps.
Re: Gardner Minshew
No but we just haven't had one in a long time. We draft late and hope they will hit gold again but just keep flopping. If there is a legit difference maker there i'd love to see us take them....although I do still have Aaron Curry nightmares, lol.Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 12:57 pm

I get that, but I can't think of the last time an elite defense won the Super Bowl with a mediocre to average QB? The Broncos? And seriously, if Cam Newton was a giant cry baby, the Broncos might not have won that one. Newton imploded.
Obviously there is no way to know if Willis is the answer, but I do like what I see on film.

Arguably happened just a month or two ago. Stafford is pretty good, but I don't think of him among the top 5, and maybe not in the top 10. He's better than mediocre, though, so I'm not willing to die on that mountain.Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 7:00 pmI get that, but I can't think of the last time an elite defense won the Super Bowl with a mediocre to average QB? For a better example it's been a minute because Brady and Mahomes have dominated recent years, and there are probably 20 QBs that qualify as better-than-average so you're not going to get a lot of champions out of the remaining bottom dwellers. Foles and Flacco did it and Garrapolo made it there. Heck, Foles was the backup to Wentz, who is the epitome of 'average'
The better question is how the hell the Seahawks defense could possibly get to an 'elite' status. Outside of our safeties, we don't have anybody close to Pro Bowl level, lost our HOF signal caller, and a DC with no experience and led a group that produced one of the worst pass rushes in modern history. They would need to replicate a Thomas/Wagner/Kam/Sherm/Avril/Bennett off season, and that is not likely.
