For all the pursuit of Mike Macdonald — and he was courted like a only child princess whose dad is on death’s door — the fact remains he has coached as many NFL games as you, dear reader.

For all the success Ryan Grubb had at UW, for which we had a front-row seat, he’s coordinated as many NFL games as Blitz the mascot.

For all the hype Aden Durde is getting as the new DC, he’s a rookie too. Same for OL coach Scott Huff.

Do we think this quartet of minds (great minds, probably!) will click right away at the next level? Do we believe their acumen and mental gifts will translate immediately, to the point that both sides of the ball hit the ground running? And sacking?

I don’t, actually. Believe that. Not for the first half of the first season. The learning curve in the NFL is such that college superstars usually take a while to acclimate, if they even stick at all. Countless first-rounders wash out altogether. Coaches must go through the same wringer. If they come through the other side, you’re in business. But until they do come through the other side, they haven’t yet. So you just don’t know.

MM has been feet away from both Harbaugh HCs for YEARS. He knows how to be a HC. Comparing Superstar college PLAYERs to College coaches in terms of adapting to the NFL is beyond asinine.

Think it takes more than standing next to a guy. Josh McDaniels, Matt Patricia stood next to bill belichick for years. Neither of them had a clue how to coach a team

While that is a good example, I think one very valid point needs to be made. As a HC, Belichick ain’t done dick without Brady. Maybe he wasn’t a very good example for these guys? Had Josh coached in Tampa the two years they were really good, do you think the results would have looked a lot different?

This is where, to steal a reference from Bill Parcells, allowing the coach to shop for the groceries went haywire, or at least it has in this case with the Patriots. Bill Belichick the GM has made life very difficult for Bill Belichick the coach, and ultimately cost him his job.
I dont believe anybody questioned belichicks ability to coach

He is going to implement his Defensive scheme and then let Grubb implement his offense. The only thing that then needs to be done is in game decisions like clock management, challenge flags and when to go for it or not. Things PC was horrible at. I am willing to bet MM will be better at it.

I think NFL players are more likely to buy into this than the Rah Rah Bubble Gum Bullshit that jumped the Shark about when Trump was first running for Potus...
Now we come to the major flaw in the projections: Mike Macdonald. Yes, Macdonald fielded a top-three scoring defense in both 2022 and 2023. I mean, his defense also logged a historic first. They led the league in fewest points allowed, most sacks, and most takeaways. Throw in that four Ravens set or tied career highs in sacks.
We all know what led to the downfall of Pete, treating Russ differently than the other players. Pete covered Russ' ass by saying he had made the Super Bowl call to throw it. That is horseshit. Russ had the opportunity to not throw the ball.It was never going to get to Lockette and then Russ threw it too far out in front as well. Pete should have chewed his ass in the watching of the film and because he didn't he lost the LOB. If he had done it, I think Russell ends up being a better QB and a better teammate instead of the prima donna prick he became

I understand what he's saying, but these are pretty dumb statements. Both Macdonald and Durde have coached in the NFL. And Grubb? Well, he didn't exactly come from some high school league, did he? And let's not forget about Leslie Frazier.

As I said before, the coaching staff is solid. How well it translates to the field remains to be seen, but I don't think we have anything to worry about.

aye, that's the rub right there - because of the stage, final game, there never was that opportunity, was there? Dont think they had "tell the truth Tuesday" two days after the SB like they did after every other Sunday game.
