Brilliant! 18 game season with 16 game per player limit
Re: Brilliant! 18 game season with 16 game per player limit
Because 32 games would be idiotic there wouldn't be enough rest between games and it would dilute The rosters dramatically. None of which would occur during an 18-game schedule.
Can't believe people are so appalled that a business would try to maximize revenues. If they are wrong they will pay the price, if they are right they will reap the rewards. My guess is it will be the latter.

Please stop.. What's the point of having a moderator? You couldn't do this on Field Gulls .D-train wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 7:05 pmBecause 32 games would be idiotic there wouldn't be enough rest between games and it would dilute The rosters dramatically. Well, like I have been saying, this is not good for the game, nor the consumer. You arguing about how great it is for the NFL - NO ONE is arguing against that. You are arguing with yourself. The whole point is that none of these absurd changes are either organic, meant to make the game better, or more competitive, or in anyway make the experience better or more affordable for the fan. As a fan - it's utter bullshit. I am a fan of the game of football and nothing that has been suggested makes it better for the players or the fans - ONLY for the NFL. If you are a fan of the this, then you are not a fan of football, you are a fan of the brand that is the NFL. and that's completely your right - but you're argument that the NFL is trying to make money off of this - no one is arguing that. Again - the rest of us are saying it's shitty for the game and the fans. It's a blatant cash grab for the NFL at everyone else's expense - and you're good with that? Bizarre position to take, but that's your right.D-train wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 7:05 pmBecause 32 games would be idiotic there wouldn't be enough rest between games and it would dilute The rosters dramatically. I am not sure what it would do to hinder the fan experience? Season ticket holders are already paying for the two preseason games, and as I understand it, the tickets aren't discounted. Now they would be paying for a real game and not a fake one. The fans that only want to buy tickets to the games that count now have one more opportunity to buy a single game ticket, and to say that one of the Stars might be sitting is no different than it is now...except it might be a coaches decision that sits them out and not an injury.auroraave wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 11:07 pm

Whether it is a cash grab for the NFL or not, I am curious why you think this is so bad for fans or the game? Are you arguing that fans are somehow going to miss two meaningless PreSeason games? I don't know if the extra 8 quarters of real football is going to result in that many more injuries, especially when most players are still only going to play in only 16 regular season games anyway. Unless you are a fan that waits until the Tuesday before to buy your tickets you are already risking missing someone play a game. IMO, the CBA has done more to damage the game than anything. The limited practice time has not only effected the players abilities to perform, but also, IMO, lead to more injuries due to guys not being ready to play.auroraave wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 11:07 pmI am a fan of the game of football and nothing that has been suggested makes it better for the players or the fans - ONLY for the NFL. I am not for this change, and mostly because I just don't really understand the reasoning...and because I think the players will be pissed off. But I am confused how you think it is such a terrible thing for football fans to lose two preseason games and gain two real ones.
Re: Brilliant! 18 game season with 16 game per player limit
Exactly. Mind boggling that simply converting two of the fake games to real games is bad for the fans. And the argument that limiting every player to 16 games is crazy as well. They are currently limited to 16 games! As for diluting talent, it is only 6 guys per game. At least that many regulars are injured or put on the inactive list EVERY week anyway so it will have an almost imperceptible impact vs. the status quo. Miniscule price to pay for having to pay full price for 2 less fake games.
Players will be all in once they see the $$$ signs obviously.

I can't believe that anyone would think that 2 out of 18 games (11%) with teams basically playing their 2nd line scrubs but having it COUNT in the standings would be GOOD for the fans. Most of the time, teams that make or miss the playoffs come down to 1 game and you want those playoff spots being decided by players who are not your 1st line players?
And before you make the argument that they'd spread all the players availability across the 18 games, the backup QB still has to play in 2 of those games. You really want Seattle's playoff chances decided by a game that Paxton Lynch or Geno Smith start in? How ridiculous.
Gimme a break...this is the single dumbest idea ever. DT, how you can say otherwise just baffles me completely.

Well they're making exceptions for kickers punters and QBs. Most importantly all teams have to play by the same rules.

So I'm a team like Dallas, that has Zeke Elliott and no other good RB to back him up.
I'm going to trust that my superstar RB being out for 2 games isn't going to cost me a playoff spot?
There are many examples of this with RB and WR across the 32 teams.
Again, totally ridiculous.

I also like how this will totally hose fans who have a particular favorite player they want to go see play, buy tickets for an outrageous amount before the season starts, and get effed by the NFL because your player isn't playing that week.
I just see no justification for this idiotic change. Makes no sense at all for the fans. Just a huge dollar grab.
