I love your confidence, but he wasn't good enough to take the Broncos, who EVERYBODY says had a better roster (except me, I didn't see it), to a .500 record. In fact, he wasn't good enough to beat out the guy that took them to 7-10.

I hope you're right, and Pete can fix what went wrong with him, but his year 2 and year 3 performances show nothing to indicate he's an NFL starter.

Geno Smith is a roughly just-sub .500 guy, IMO. Not good enough to win games on his own, but good enough to keep us competitive. If Lock is good enough to beat him out, then maybe you're right. I don't think he is... but I worry they're going to give him the starting job to find out.

True, Pete is not a tanker or someone to set out to throw the season, but he probably thinks the same as you that Lock is a .500 type
of guy and since it appears he's going with him anyway, that's sort of not trying very hard for this season. Possibly for 2023 draft position.

The Beastquake year - Hass was the QB and Hass got slightly injured in Miami the game before playing the Rams for the losing record playoff spot. I firmly believe Pete went with Whitehurst for that game to give us the best chance to lose. The cameras caught Hass on the sidelines and he was livid. He obviously thought he should be playing. Whitehurst won the game anyway and was repaid for it by watching Hass get his job back for the Beastquake game. The next year, Pete did that same thing as this year letting Hasselbeck go and using Tarvaris Jackson for a year before pulling out all the stops to get a QB.

Interesting article, but that to me says just the opposite. Lock wasn't a toss in, they think he could be their QB. .And how could this be about tanking when they traded for veteran starters, why not draft picks?

Thanks, don't think I was doubting you its just that I read everything an somehow missed it.

Based on this it would be impossible for Lock to be ahead at this point. I would be shocked if they go with and older guy with no upside over Lock. He is ahead because of experience not talent and that will change once Lock gets up to speed.

This is what worries me. Lock looked good in college. Not ELITE, but good. Then he looked pretty good as a rookie for like 5 games. After that, he looked terrible. If you looked at the right tape of Johnny Manziel or Tim Tebow, you'd think they were very capable, too.

I just don't think if you're good that you get WORSE in year 2 and 3. Seems like if he was the guy, he would have made that step.

And why sign a single FA if they remotely wanted to tank. Especially this one:

Nwosu and the Seahawks have agreed to a two-year deal worth $20 million, his agents told ESPN's Adam Schefter. It includes $10.5 million guaranteed.

What it means: The Seahawks are taking a big step -- at what for them is a big price -- towards beefing up one of their top needs. Their pass rush underperformed by any metric last season, including a No. 29 ranking in sacks per dropback. They needed more edge talent, specifically outside linebackers (as opposed to bigger 4-3 defensive ends) as they continue to move towards more of a 3-4 structure up front. At 6-foot-2 and 251 pounds, Nwosu fits that description. The 2018 second-round pick doesn't have eye-popping sack production, with 15 in four seasons -- including a career-best five last year. But he was 16th last year in ESPN's pass rush win rate among edge defenders, right between new teammate Darrell Taylor at 15 and old teammate Joey Bosa at 17. Nwosu, Taylor and Carlos Dunlap give Seattle a strong edge-rush trio. Jamal Adams will factor as well as a blitzer. That allows the Seahawks to go another route with the ninth overall pick, or wherever they end up making their first selection.

What's the risk: Unless incentives/escalators are included in the $20 million value of Nwosu's deal, his $10 million per-year average is the largest the Seahawks have given to a free agent from another team under Carroll and general manager John Schneider. Either way, it's a big deal by their standards and one they could afford to make after entering free agency with the fourth-most cap space of any team following Bobby Wagner's release and the Russell Wilson trade. There were much more accomplished (and probably more expensive) options like Chandler Jones and Von Miller. But they're over 30. If the Seahawks believe the 25-year-old Nwosu is ascending, then a younger player like him makes more sense for a rebuilding team.

they have track records to show they're consistently clueless. Especially Kiper. Kiper doesn't understand the draft, which is exactly what I want. If he hates it, it's good. I'm more confident after reading that.

I am firmly in the "we need a better QB" camp, but there weren't any QBs that were better, and for once we didn't reach. We picked the best player available AND filled positions of need. Let's see what Lock and Geno can do, and if they suck, we'll have a nice pick next year to get that guy. (Also note that my guy Foles got released, sooooooo)

If anybody doesn't understand why we'd want the best RB in the country when our #1 and 2 RBs are constantly injured just isn't paying attention. Even if they have a great year, both will need to be replaced in a year.

Remember that we basically got nothing out of Eskridge and Tre Brown last year, but they both looked good when healthy, so we're adding even MORE young talent, and the team went from aging and slow to young and fast really quick. This season may not be great for wins and losses, but the future is looking good. If you get a team with one or two holes to fill, then you can make some big moves in trades or free agency - if these picks work out, that's where we are.

YES! In Kiper's write up he asks if they expect Lock or Smith to play good football. Uhm, who expects Willis to come in and be a day one starter on a playoff team? The knock on Willis is that he is a work in progress, right? So, Kiper talks about the QB play next season and rips on us for not taking a QB that wouldn't be ready next season? That guy is a dumbass.

Clearly, they don’t feel like quarterback is as big of a need as observers do and/or they don’t like any of the QBs they’ve had chances to take so far. But running back was a bigger need than you might realize given Rashaad Penny’s long injury history and the uncertainty with Chris Carson coming off neck surgery. Taking a running back this early would seem to suggest some concern on Seattle’s part about Carson coming back to full strength.

And there you go. I of course won't pretend that I have never knocked this organization for doing dumb shit. But drafting the back who many say was the best back in college football last year, and do it just before the middle of the second round hardly seems like a reach to me. I get the criticism of taking two tackles that might struggle in the run game, but how well has it worked out for us drafting all of these road graders in the past?
