And if Sweat was up against a much better Lineman shouldn't that be reflected in their PFF score? The Titans starting tackles scored a 54 and 64 respectively
Yes, as should the fact that he demanded a double team. PFF has some major flaws obviously. I like to use it to see how well the Line is doing, but then you see shit like this. If a DT is demanding double and triple teams, and someone is grading his EVERY play, how does he score that low?

Early in the season it's probably harder to gauge linemen since you can't really observe strength.

Seems to me as I read it, the Titans came up with a blocking scheme that focused on not letting Sweat beat them. Problem was the complimentary pieces of the Chicago defense took advantage of it. Taylor had a good game, he deserves to be recognized for it. But I think Sweat probably contributed to it as well, it is less likely Taylor gets two sacks if Sweat isn't lined up at the other end. I don't see how you can grade that sort contribution with a number to begin with, and certainly not a poor one, that aspect of a team functioning as a unit

They grade each play individually. I don't think they necessarily reward big stats.

That's my point basically, they are graded individually in a system that's based on working collectively as unit.

Well that is the main problem i guess. How well do the graders understand the responsibilities of each player within whatever scheme their team is running. On the other hand, it's generally pretty fucking obvious to anyone with a 3 digit IQ what the player's supposed to be doing.

So for instance it would be obvious to you what defensive lineman has been assigned the running back in a particular defensive alignment? Or know when gap assignments have been property exchanged?
Coaching the Gap-Exchange vs. the Zone Read
If the defensive lineman who is assigned to the RB does his job every time, the threat of the RB carrying the ball on the play should be virtually non-existent. The other two D-lineman and linebackers (excluding the LBs to the mesh/read side) defend their gaps and the end eliminates the B-gap dive, leaving nowhere for the RB to go. Anytime the end is assigned to bend and tackle the RB, we assign the inside linebacker on that side to exchange gaps with the end and tackle the QB. Most of the time the QB is the one who will end up with the ball, provided he makes the right read.

I really would like to get Collinsworth to explain it to me. I would assume he could, I'm just not seeing it

Reading about it here, Collinsworth could be headed for trouble. I mean it's a significant operation, its really an analog operation as opposed to analytics, quite labor intensive which makes it costly.

So now comes Next Gen Stats which is the NFL utilizing tracking devices directly on players and the football. They are working on AI systems now for analysis. They probably will be able to quickly turn out more sophisticated analitics at a lower cost than PFF, as well as allowing teams to develop their own analitics.

On top of that there's been management issues, they've supposedly lost a lot of talent. PFF could be going the way of the buggy whip fairly soon

Lost a lot of talent lol? According to most of you they just hired anyone to do the grades even if they had no background in football whatsoever.

It wasn't most of us, it was actually admitted by PFF that they don't necessarily hire football guys. That said, how much football do you need to know to watch one guy, determine that he was double teamed are decide that probably means he did his job? That's the part about this situation I don't get. Sweat was the focus of the O Line. How much football do you need to know to see that and grade accordingly?
