Brilliant! 18 game season with 16 game per player limit
Re: Brilliant! 18 game season with 16 game per player limit
Just looked and a Grand total of 7 Hawks started more than 14 games last season and would have been impacted.
So you would rather pay full price for the 4th preseason game and see ZERO starters play in a fake game than watch a real game with ~90% of the starters? Interesting logic.

Two extra games they would have to increase the roster and salary cap or do away with it entirely. If Hawks have to play two games without Wilson. I want Foles or Tannehill backing him up.

Who pays full price to see the 4th preseason game? I think it's a given that you'll see a bunch of scrubs play that game and everyone knows it.
Season ticket holders usually sell off that game and recoup some of their money, if I'm not mistaken.
The current system works fine. Why screw with the fans, the schedule, NFL Season team records, Fantasy players, and forcing guys that are healthy and CAN play the entire schedule to sit for no reason whatsoever, other than for the reason "We want more of your money". The guys that are injured and can't play is a valid reason not to play. The guys that can play and don't because of some arbitrary league rule is really dumb.

Believe me I would prefer just playing an 18 game season with 2 less fake games and be done with it but they have to come up with the quirky playing time restrictions because if they didn't everyone would freak out about player health even though there are probably just as many injuries if not more in preseason games.
btw I can sell my regular season games for about an average of $250 each. I can sell my preseason games from about $50 each so it would increase my revenue by about $400 a year. Either that or I can go to a real game on a beautiful late August afternoon.

There would be an exception for QBs punters and kickers.

Sparingly...not the whole game and pre-season is way different than regular season. 18 games before playoffs ..excuse meMichael K. wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 1:35 amTeams do it now when they make the playoffs. The QBs play in two and sometimes three pre-season games already.

They are messing with the sacred geometry, the very numerological concepts that underpin the success of the league these past few decades. One football. Two teams per game. Four teams in each division. Eight different divisions. Sixteen games per season. Thirty-two teams.
If they introduce a power of three to the schedule, this could very well result in the adoption of a new brand of football played on a triangular field with three teams competing against each other, which would require billions of dollars to build new stadiums to accommodate these new dimensions. Also, they would need to add 4 expansion teams and go to 6 divisions per conference with 3 teams in each division.
It's a bad idea.

The best part of this, is watching people try to defend this utterly absurd proposal with a straight face, especially while completely ignoring the many, many, potential downsides that have been shown. the NFL 'making more money' is not a reason any fan would ever get on board with this. I do not believe for one second that anyone on here purporting to support this, actually do. It defies any and all logic and common sense. I haven't laughed this hard in a while. "Hey, Captain, can we steer closer to that iceberg? I'd love to get a better look!" "Sure! What could possibly go wrong?"
There isn't enough attrition - we need more games, for more injuries, leading into the playoffs. This is literally like an Onion article - and then add in all the arbitrary rules regarding who has to sit and for how long, and then suddenly it's "Oh, the QB's and kickers won't have to sit out any games" until they slowly whittle that list down to nothing and suddenly no one has to sit out anything and now it's just an 18 game season. Gee f'n whiz, can't see that one coming - two extra games of roster decimating injuries just in time for the playoffs - so the owners can make a little more money while the game quality circles the drain. Defending that because the NFL is somehow being stifled financially? The same league that brought you the PSL fee? That is priceless. I do not believe anyone defending this absurd notion is doing so with sincerity.
