Uh, you're forgetting one large piece of the football versus hockey argument. Average hockey players are only getting 22 minutes (out of 60) per game of actual ice time. So the 10x number you state is far less. Then when you factor in that 90% of the time they are actually SKATING around without any contact, and the number is reduced even lower.
Football players are hitting on every single play and pretty much every single player is being hit in one way or another......even if they only play half the plays in a game (offense versus defense), it's still a brutal sport, much more so than hockey. Not taking anything away from hockey players, and they are a crazy lot, it's still just not the same in comparison.
