Sunday night there were officially two shutdown happening in D.C. as the Seahawks marched into town and put an absolute filibuster on the Redskins. That was as complete of an ass kicking as Reagan vs. Mondale. IYKYK.
Yeah, Seattle dominated all phases of the game as they burst our to a 28-0 lead and won the f'n game in the first half, despite Pete Carroll's protestations that that is not possible. It is. Oh, it is. Watching this game, it was just like watching the ghosts of seahawks past. Wags, the LOB content during the broadcast, Dan Quinn. Over in Las Vegas you have the skeletons of Pete, Jamal and Geno. It's kinda cool to see - it's kinda cool to see this new version of the Seattle Seahawks emerging from the ashes of the old - right in front of our very eyes.
The page has turned, this is a new team. This is Mike MacDonald's team, and they're gonna be a problem. The whole league was out on notice last night. Darnold dropping vicious dimes all over the place, depth players stepping up, offensive line suddenly a strength. The defense is, well they are who we thought they were, but that depth is stunning. Okada was punishing anyone is his path.
Emmanwori. Dude can flat out ball. Can we just print the Emmanwarrior t shirts now? He is going to terrorize offenses. That secondary is seriously physical and I love it!
That taunting penalty on Woolen was lame. These are grown men playing a game. Woolen did nothing egregious. Pathetic call by the refs. Riq gets a lot of shit, but he doesn't deserve any for last nights game - he was good and that call was straight trash.
My biggest takeaway was the speed of that defense, and the LOB style hitting. They came to play last night. That was fierce football on display. Can't say enough about the evolution of Sam Darnold. His confidence is next level - the pitch forward while falling down should be the lead highlight on ESPN. The way he spread the ball around was a thing of beauty. JSN continues to impress - getting open constantly.
Now we get to the reality check from this game. Before annointing Seattle the baddest dawgs in the junkyard, let's take a look at reality.
The Redskins are not good. What's worse is the look old and slow compared to Seattle, and that was on full display last night. Quinn's roster is aging out and it showed - mostly on that defense. That makes any offense look better, and by 'any offense' I mean Seattle's. Kubiak took full advantage of DC's scheme and Darnold made them pay dearly. In the second half they made quality adjustments and Seattle didn't go full throttle anymore, resulting on only one second half score, admittedly the game was for all intents and purposes over by that time (again, despite PC's protestations).
Seattle needs to do a better job of containing running-threat QB's as that was 90% of their offense last night. Rushing the passer is great, but containing them instead can be even better - especially when your secondary is doing thier job. Washington managed a disturbing 157 yards rushing - against one of the top run defenses in the league.
Division play ain't gonna look like that. The Tardinals have too-often caught Seattle with thier pants down to ever overlook. I have PTSD from the number of times a Cardinal game was penciled in a win, only to watch a back up scrub beat us - at home. That may be a PC thing tho.
Then the Rams game. That's where the rubber meets the road. Somehow, some way, both the Lambs and CHardonnay Nation just keep winning. Until we take them down, the NFCW belongs to them. Luckily Seattle is trending in the right direction and the throne is there to be taken.
Great win, the league is on notice, confidence must be high in that locker room, so let's savor that prime time win and punish the birds next Sunday and set up the showdown with the Lambs. This coaching staff, particularly Kubiak, are impressing right now. Let's keep this train a rollin'!
go hawks - and make those throwbacks permanent already - wft are you waiting for? Best look in the league.
