The defensive guru guy

Post by Donn Beach » Sat May 09, 2026 2:47 pm

So this is from a video of this guy, Cody Alexander who's supposed to be a defensive talking head hotshot. He's asked what he feels is a significant change this off season. He feels it's moving on from Woolen. He says it was his lack of playing physical. That came up the other day, that they wanted a better tackler.

What I find interesting, how I'm reading it is there's a risk, this here...
“So to me, when you look at this defense, you’re going to lose a little bit of your multiplicity. It’s going to be a lot harder for you to play in that dime look that a lot of people want to do.”

When you talk about stopping the Rams you can include the 49ers. They both basically run the same offense. I take it he's saying the focus is on stopping the 12 personal stuff of the Rams at the risk of being less adaptable to the rest of the league. I just find this stuff interesting. How it's all about stopping the Rams. The rest of the league doesn't concern us lol.
“I think it would be losing Riq Woolen, who I thought was kind of inevitable. He just didn’t fit in the fact that those corners need to be really physical. They want to play a lot of Cover 2. They need you to be around the ball when they run, especially against the—I mean, let’s be honest, it’s wide zone central in the in the [NFC] West at this point, right? I mean, everybody’s basically doing the same offense. So, you need those physical corners. That just wasn’t part of of what Woolen wanted to do, which I wasn’t shocked. He goes to the Eagles. They ran the most man last year, probably going to do the same this year.

“So to me, when you look at this defense, you’re going to lose a little bit of your multiplicity. It’s going to be a lot harder for you to play in that dime look that a lot of people want to do, especially—‘Hey, we get 11 personnel. Hey, let’s get into some dime now. We really kill your passing game. And if you want to run on us, do it. We’ve got Witherspoon and [Nick] Emmanwori right there. You’re not going to be running in into the box.’

And so to me, I think that is the biggest one right there is that losing Woolen doesn’t allow you to always kick in [Devon] Witherspoon. Now, if Julian Neal comes in and he’s great, maybe Nehemiah Pritchett in his third year, you feel really good about him and hey, ‘I think he can survive over by himself to the field,’ then that changes it a little bit. But that to me is the biggest one.

With the additions of Rylie Mills and Fowler one can hope they will put more pressure on opposing QBs and won't need a pure cover CB like Woolen as much this season.

That sacked by Mills in the Super Bowl might have been the best play of the whole game. I am definitely looking forward to more of that from that dude.

So for those who didn't read it, this was about why the national fake sports news favors the Rams over the Seahawks for this coming year. The Rams are tough. I was hoping like hell we didn't have to play them in the playoffs, as I feared them. They are the arch rival at this point, no doubt. But to assume the Seahawk will be worse while assuming the Rams will stay the same is really fucking dumb.

This fake narrative is ignoring two (at least) facts.
Mike Macdonald (38yo) was in his second year as an NFL HC last year and won the SB in impressive fashion. Does the National media really think MM's coaching arc peaked in two years?
John Schneider was executive of the year last year in his second year without Pete Carroll. Coincidence, or he is the best GM in football?

It's not fake news, the news is accurate which is their opinions. I don't have a problem with it really. No more than the guy next to me at the bar telling me he thinks the Rams take it next season, we shall see.

ESPN has the seahawks number one in theivr power ranking. I think that's appropriate. It tick me off a little to see the Rams there. But if they want to predict the Rams knock them off it doesn't bother me. Let's play the games and see.

Bleacher report has the seahawks defense number four last season. That bothered me a little but then having the best team doesn't necessarily mean it's the best defense. Texans were number one.

Takes me back again to beating Jacksonville and The Texans on the road after the Tampa Bay loss at home.... Statement games lol

It's interesting looking beyond next season. That is, each teams potential 2027 FAs. From the athletics top 30 ranking. The seahawks have one, Witherspoon. The Rams have Stafford and Nacua as well as...
Edge rusher Byron Young, a central piece to what the Rams do along their defensive line, is number 15. Wide receiver Davante Adams is number 17, though he is probably closer to retiring than receiving a contract extension. Guard Kevin Dotson is 22, defensive lineman Kobie Turner is 27, and guard Steve Avila is 28

I stopped fearing them when they lost to the Panthers....Those over the middle wide open 57 yard pass plays to Puka need to stop though.

The Houston Texans Defense gave up 28 points to the freakin Patriots in the Playoffs. No wonder they are so highly regarded. :|
