Not good news for Henderson
The Seahawks made a trade with the Jets on Wednesday, adding receiver and special teams standout Irvin Charles in exchange for a 2028 conditional seventh-round pick, pending physical.
Receiver Trayvon Rudolph, an undrafted rookie out of Toledo, was waived to make room on the roster

Bad news for Rudolph but he's a gunner not a returner so Henderson is safe.

Who the hell is Henderson?

Emmanuel Henderson? They drafted him? The trade seems a little odd to me. Charles seems a little redundant. Wonder what the deal is investing another draft pick at this point
Henderson was also a contributor in the return game, averaging 22.8 per return with one touchdown in 2025. This type of profile is one Seahawk fans will be familiar with. Players like Tyler Lockett, Dareke Young, and Rashid Shaheed are a few examples of players who with the Seahawks contributed to the receiving game and return game. Henderson figures to be a contributor on special teams, and stated that special teams is a big part of his game.
Emmanuel Henderson Jr. is a wide receiver and standout special teams player who was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round (199th overall) of the 2026 NFL Draft. Valued for his blazing 4.44 speed and physical play, his primary path to an active roster spot is earning a role as a special teams gunner
I thought it was a big deal when they drafted him. It was seen as a STs draft pick. How focused they are on STs. Jay Harbaugh gets a pick. Now they trade another pick for a similar guy

Looks to me like they saw an opportunity to improve the team with a veteran gunner and took it. Henderson is screwed, it adds competition but also probably a wasted draft pick. Be interesting if they both could make the team
The Seahawks took a risk by drafting Henderson in the sixth round, 199th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. One of his main attributes as a playmaker is his breakout speed in vertical routes. This made him more appealing to be considered for the 53-man roster based on his potential contributions in special teams as a gunner. The Seahawks’ trade for Charles put Henderson at a significant disadvantage, as it could’ve been the only position that he could have gotten..

It's a minor move but I just find it really interesting. When MM talks about "chasing edges " this is it. Drafting Henderson in the first place was chasing edges, and then they compound it with trading for Charles. Dialed in, trying to find an edge. Jay Harbaugh must be feeling great, died and gone to heaven

Fyi it is legal to have two gunners on every punt......Henderson will make the team....
There are normally two gunners on a punt play. They line up split out wide on the far left and right ends of the line of scrimmage, closest to the sidelines. Their primary job is to sprint downfield as soon as the ball is snapped to tackle the punt returner or down the ball. They are typically the fastest players on the special teams unit.

I'm curious what it might look like with both Henderson and Charles on it, waiting is no fun
