Seems like as Seattle fans we've been having to deal with regression, ie Cal and perhaps Myers now. I saw a thing on Matt Stafford. It was pointing out there was a fair amount of luck involved in his performance last season. In terms of the quality of his passes his interception rate should have been fairly signifcanitly higher. There should be an element of regression there. And i would think in terms of his age and injury history as well. For all the additions to their defense there could be some regression with the Rams offense

Well, Stafford is 38. But according to this article, the Rams have a star-studded roster.

Yeah, on the other hand...yikes! I believe they went after Garrett with the expectation they could get Darnold to return, that wasnt out of the blue. Havng them both on the line, how do you deal with that? It was customary to double or triple team them but what do you do with both of them? One of them is going to be left isolated. Hopefully the seahawks figure it out. But theres going to be teams out there they just crush

2023 Season: 16 games played, 8.0 sacks, 28 combined tackles, 25 assists.
2022 Season: 11 games played, 5.0 sacks, 27 combined tackles, 22 assists, 1 forced fumble.
2021 Season: 17 games played, 12.5 sacks, 38 combined tackles, 46 assists, 4 forced fumbles.
2020 Season: 16 games played, 13.5 sacks, 27 combined tackles, 18 assists, 4 forced fumbles.
2019 Season: 16 games played, 12.5 sacks, 29 combined tackles, 19 assists, 2 forced fumbles.
2018 Season: 16 games played, 20.5 sacks, 41 combined tackles, 18 assists, 4 forced fumbles.

So, he went from a game wrecker to a guy that got 13 sacks in 27 games.....to taking two seasons off. And now? He is going to be the Defensive Player of the Year again if you ask Ram fans. He is good, but come on guys, this is a lot of hype for a guy that hasn't played a football game since January 14th of 2024 and turned 35 in May.

My bigger issue is not regression, but did we get better in any area over last year?

Rams got better at dl, cb, and safety. We got worse at cb and safety. Stayed the same at everywhere else. Maybe a bit better at backup DE and DL with mills full season.

But, stayed neutral everywhere else.

You could be right. My hope is that another year of Darnold with JSN, Kupp and Shaheed makes them better. Another year together for the O Line makes them better. Our Special Teams are still better than LA's. Some times getting better on paper doesn't make you better on the field because there was no continuity. Google "Dream Team Philadelphia Eagles" if you don't believe me.

Michael, great post. I am hoping another year together gets us a bump in improvement off a spectacular year.

I was thinking that too, didn't we have one of the youngest teams in the league last season? That means another year's experience for our good young players like Zabel, Emmanwori, and all the other guys still under 25.

To be clear, its the Rams i was speaking to in terms of regression. Simply put, im saying the added fire power to their defensive side of the ball could be balanced out by regression to the offensive side. Stafford could be looking at some regression

Yep. Totally agree. Donald as well. And Garrett won't even sniff that number of sacks.
