Geno Smith Era

Post by trharder » Sun Oct 10, 2021 2:12 am

Russ is supposed to be out anywhere from 4-8 weeks.
Considering Russ is hardly ever out of action, this will provide a rare snapshot of what the Seahawks look like without him.
Both as a leader and the main play maker.

I'm predicting Geno bombs, but I hope I'm wrong.

I was impressed with him Thursday. Especially what he did pre snap. Be interesting though now that the defense has a week to prepare.

Geno Smith is a competent NFL quarterback. He's not the guy to lead us to the Superbowl, but he has talent, was a starter and has experience.

The whole thing hinges on the defense. No quarterback in the world can overcome a historically awful defense, as we have had so far this season. If they make a similar turnaround to last year, then Geno has a chance to succeed. If not, we're in for a lonnnnnng season.

they overcame a historically bad defense last season, that they now need to do it two seasons in a row is totally unacceptable. I don't know if firing Norton helps at this point, but on the other hand they can't just continue this, its beyond belief

firing a coordinator mid-season is difficult. You're pot-committed to his scheme for the season - if you bring in a new guy, he won't be able to implement his scheme.

You'd have to give the job to somebody in-house, at least on an interim level... so who would that be? We should've brought in Dan Quinn during the off-season. Now we are royally fucked.

guy suggesting bringing back Richard...That would seem an odd move, but probably could be pulled off. It was never clear why he was canned in the first place. I do look at that as the point things went sideways. Not only why was he fired but why replace him with Norton? The deal with being a HC, other than wins you are graded by your coaching tree. You can see the development of PC's, you can see it in Bradley and Quinn, how does Norton fit in? Instead of looking for new talent to mine, it was an odd step backward
One of the main good things about Richard is his players appear to like him a lot and want to play hard for him. But Richard also coached under Carroll and Gus Bradley and Quinn and knows how to run a defense and proved that in his time as DC of the Seahawks. Norton, Jr. needs to be let go and Richard brought back in 2022.

Richard would be great, anything but Norton. Heck, bring back Ray Rhodes or John Marshall.

I was thinking we could bring back our first DC but looks like he died 22 years ago.

They could exhume his body and do a Weekend at Bernie's number with it and it would be an improvement.
