I knew putting Coby Bryant at 10th was stupid. Jesus Bob HATES rookies even more than PC.
30. Linebacker Boye Mafe
Potential role in 2022: In the rotation for the outside linebacker spots and as a rush end.

Why he’s ranked here: Mafe, a second-round pick out of Minnesota, impressed in the offseason program, drawing comparisons from Pete Carroll to Cliff Avril. The Seahawks hope Mafe can team with free agent signee Uchenna Nwosu and third-year player Darrell Taylor to transform Seattle’s pass rush crew into a younger, faster group.

29. Cornerback Coby Bryant
Potential role in 2022: Competing for a starting outside cornerback spot.

Why he’s ranked here: Bryant, a fourth-round pick out of Cincinnati, worked on the left side during the offseason program in workouts open to the media, but could get tried on the other side, as well, as Seattle’s cornerback positions are pretty wide open and the ultimate goal is to just get the best two on the field. Bryant impressed with his playmaking in the spring and could make a quick rise to a starting job.

28. Cornerback Artie Burns
Potential role in 2022: In the competition for a starting cornerback job, specifically on the right side.

Why he’s ranked here: A first-round pick of the Steelers in 2016 and veteran of 37 NFL starts, Burns was one of the surprises of the spring, working with the starters on the right side. The hoped-for return of Tre Brown and emergence of Bryant will make keeping that spot a challenge, though.

27. Right tackle Abraham Lucas
Potential role in 2022: Starting right tackle.

Why he’s ranked here: The 72nd overall pick out of Washington State is the leader of a three-man battle for the vacant right tackle spot with second-year players Jake Curhan and Stone Forsythe also in the running. But the hope is Lucas can win the job and show he can be a foundational piece of the offense for years to come.

26. Cornerback Sidney Jones
Potential role in 2022: Starting left cornerback.

Why he’s ranked here: The former UW standout spent the spring working as the starter at left cornerback. He’ll have to hold off Bryant and Brown to keep that job into the regular season.

25. Wide receiver Dee Eskridge
Potential role in 2022: Third receiver behind Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf.

Why he’s ranked here: The Seahawks are hoping their first pick in the 2021 draft will stay healthy this year and validate their selection of him with the 56th pick overall. The spring sent some mixed signals — he showed well when healthy early on but then was sidelined during minicamp with a hamstring injury. This ranking may seem a bit high for Eskridge but consider it more reflective of the value the team thinks he can add this season.

24. Place kicker Jason Myers
Potential role in 2022: Starting kicker.

Why he’s ranked here: Myers was erratic in 2021 going 17-for-23 on field goals after a record-setting 2020 when he made all 24. Every point may be more important than ever this year so the Seahawks need a bounceback season from Myers, who is entering the final season of his contract (and for what it’s worth, the Seahawks could save $4 million against the cap if he were released before the season, though with no competition on the roster his job for now seems secure).

23. Tight end Will Dissly
Potential role in 2022: Sharing the primary tight end duties with Noah Fant.

Why he’s ranked here: The Seahawks surprised some re-signing Dissly to a three-year deal worth up to $24 million, an average-per-year tied for 15th-most in the NFL. But the contract illustrated how important the Seahawks feel Dissly’s blocking is to their running attack as well as his potential value in the passing game. Figure Dissly to often pair with Fant, working more in-line with Fant out wide.

22. Running back Ken Walker III
Potential role in 2022: Backup and/or complementary running back to Rashaad Penny.

Why he’s ranked here: The Seahawks also surprised some taking Walker 41st overall. But he would not have been available with their next pick at 72, and with uncertainty about Chris Carson’s future and Penny’s injury history — and also being on just a one-year contract — the Seahawks moved quickly to grab the durable Walker. If healthy, Penny will be the starter. But the team will look to carve out a major role for Walker, as well.

21. Center Austin Blythe
Potential role in 2022: Starting center.

Why he’s ranked here: The Seahawks signed Blythe, a veteran of 49 NFL starts including Super Bowl LIII with the Rams following the 2018 season. Seattle is counting on the 30-year-old Blythe, who signed a one-year, $4 million deal, to not only anchor the line but become a leader of the group, as well, with veteran left tackle Duane Brown now gone.

Jesus, I think five of my picks are already off the Board. Bob sure hates the rooks.
20. Left guard Damien Lewis
Potential role in 2022: Starting left guard.

Why he’s ranked here: Lewis was judged harsher by Pro Football Focus in his second season in 2021, especially in run blocking, in his first season at left guard after playing on the right his rookie year. There seems no real question about his hold on a starting job heading into year three, and the Seahawks consider him a key piece of an OL they hope can improve and help ease the quarterback transition this year.

19. Linebacker Cody Barton
Potential role in 2022: Starting inside linebacker.

Why he’s ranked here: Barton will play alongside Jordyn Brooks inside in the Seahawks’ 3-4 scheme. Barton played the middle last year when Bobby Wagner was injured, and he’s taking over Wagner’s spot this year as the play-caller in the huddle. The season is a big opportunity for Barton as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. The Seahawks have shown a lot of faith in him to be able to team with Brooks and offset the release of future Hall of Famer Wagner.

18. P Michael Dickson
Potential role in 2022: Starting punter.

Why he’s ranked here: Too high for a punter? Well, the way the Seahawks appear to want to play — emphasizing defense and a running game complemented by timely and big-play passing — means field position will always be a key. And there are few better at shifting the field than Dickson, who led the NFL with a team-record 40 punts downed inside the 20 last year.

17. Right guard Gabe Jackson
Potential role in 2022: Starting right guard.

Why he’s ranked here: Jackson played the second-most offensive snaps last year (923) behind only the departed Duane Brown. This year, he has the fourth-highest cap hit on the team ($9 million) all of which is dead money. So, Seattle has to hope his knee has recovered from offseason surgery.

16. Cornerback Justin Coleman
Potential role in 2022: Starting nickel corner.

Why he’s ranked here: While the Seahawks have lots of uncertainty with its outside cornerbacks, the one sure thing at that position appears to be Coleman playing in the slot. He worked with the starters throughout the offseason program, and the Seahawks hope he can replicate the success he had playing that spot for them in 2017-18.

15. Defensive end Shelby Harris
Potential role in 2022: A key part of the rotation on the defensive line.

Why he’s ranked here: Harris is an underrated part of the Russell Wilson trade, a player the Seahawks expect to play a big role in revitalizing the defense. He had the second most snaps of any player on Denver’s defensive front last year and the Seahawks are hoping he can add some consistent pass rush. He had seven sacks last season for the Broncos.

14. Defensive tackle Al Woods
Potential role in 2022: Starting defensive tackle

Why he’s ranked here: The 35-year-old Woods had maybe the best season of his career in 2021, which earned him a two-year deal worth up to $9 million. The Seahawks expect him to team with Poona Ford at the tackle spots and provide a sturdy foundation against the run.

13. Left tackle Charles Cross
Potential role in 2022: Starting left tackle.

Why he’s ranked here: The Seahawks’ highest draft pick since 2010 at No. 9 overall will step right in to the starting spot at left tackle, taking over for Duane Brown. That may be a lot to ask of a 21-year-old who played just 22 games in college. But the Seahawks weren’t alone in thinking Cross has what it takes to be a dominant LT for years to come.

12. QB Drew Lock
Potential role in 2022: A contender for the starting quarterback job.

Why he’s ranked here: Quarterback remains the big mystery of this team heading into camp and Lock will battle with Geno Smith for the starting job. Whoever wins it will instantly become one of the most important players on the team. The one who doesn’t? Well, he’ll still be important, too, because who knows what will happen.

11. QB Geno Smith
Potential role in 2022: Heading into camp atop the QB depth chart.

Why he’s ranked here: Smith will be the leader at QB when camp begins because of his experience with the team and one year playing in Shane Waldron’s system, and having played respectably in three starts in 2021.

I probably would have had Cross, Dickson and one of the QBs in, but again, haven't taken the time to overanalyze. LOL

What has Fant ever done to be ranked this high? Harris and Woods both have accomplished more.

Maybe Bob is getting him confused with his big Brother George, future HOF "Tight End".

The thing is, isn't this a list of who he THINKS will be their ten best players? I don't think what they have accomplished in the past has anything to do with it. Fant is a stud, and he is going to a run heavy offense with below average QB play. I would think a pass catching TE as talented as Fant might have a big impact.

Woods is a run stuffing DT, not exactly an Aaron Donald type impact DT, and Harris is a six sack edge player. Fant has had people drooling over his abilities his entire career, hasn't exactly been utilized the way most think he should, and he has only missed one game in his entire career. That, and I bet he is going to be what, tenth? That doesn't really put him a lot higher than those two in the grand scheme. We are just breaking them down in tens.

I'm hoping last season's "regression" has lowered DK in Bob's estimation and elevated Lockett. Same thing with Adams. I'm somewhat miffed that he again has Dickson out of the top 10. Punters are extremely important in a Pete Carroll governed offense and he is one of the best.

He is a better athlete than Woods and Harris but look at what the Seahawks did with Graham and Everett.
