Be innovative. Why was the first half against Denver so much different? Was it because Pete was fired up about beating Russ, or did they burn all of their ideas this offseason on two quarters to start the season?

You can't expect PC to let a young inexperienced rookie that barely knows the playbook like Geno to throw the ball downfield.

I also love that Geno has played 8 quarters of football, 2 of them he put up any numbers, but he is trademarking a phrase. Oy vey.

After watching the O-line carefully, it's pretty clear what Pete's doing - he's protecting his rookie tackles by running a quick passing game. Almost everything is a 3-step drop and quick pass. Some of those are mid-range throws, but anything long they get gimmicky, like a double pass or fleaflicker. It is clearly more about the O-Line than Geno not wanting to throw deep. There is a lot of pressure coming off the edge, particularly Lucas' side, and a lot of pressure going thru the turnstile that is Gabe Jackson. They put 2 TEs in the backfield(!!!) on several plays, which was weird, because they didn't seem to block from there.

I am 10000000% sure he'd be doing the same thing with Drew Lock back there, maybe a little less with Russ or somebody really mobile.

Anyway, none of that is nearly as problematic as the defense being on the field for 45 minutes a game. How many punts have they forced this season? One??? The only one I remember was the one that bounced off the grocery checker they had blocking for Lockett. I don't think there have been any others. The offense needs to get some TD drives, but it's hard to open up the offense when you only have 4 or 5 possessions.

They forced one punt in the Denver game. 3 in the 49er game. The Denver punt was in the first half. The last six quarters of football have been flat out bad.

So, if protecting your Tackles means you can't score, who the fuck cares if you are protecting your Tackles? They can't move the ball, and the biggest reason why was addressed in that video. The play calling is incredibly basic. What have the past six quarters been different than the first two, and why does this constantly happen? When Duane Brown was here and we signed a Veteran RT to go along with him, were we protecting the Tackles, or just calling a boring ass offense?

The play-calling likely needs to be incredibly basic until PC sees what he's really got to work with.

I didn't hear any excuses after the SF game. He admitted that they did nothing in that game. It was actually quite refreshing.

Good news! Pete says, Seahawks need to not hold back at all.

IMO, the excuses were that he needed to dumb down the play book to protect the Rookie Tackles. It seems they only became Rookies at Halftime of the first game.

I've gone back and watched both games a second time, and it has changed my opinions on a lot of things.

1) the playcalling SEEMS bad, but it's not bad AS A WHOLE. Aside from the single most idiotic call with the 4 RB pass in the red zone and the expected sideways pass on 3rd and 12, the calls have actually been good. Several 3rd and longs converted by passes actually beyond the sticks. The execution is spotty, though - every drive ends with a missed assignment (often rookie mistakes) or a penalty. It's easy to sit back and say the play calling is weak, but Geno is completing 80% of his passes, so guys are getting open, and he's getting them the ball. The run game hasn't produced much, and when it does, it's called back by a penalty.
2) A similar thing happens on defense: there have been crucial penalties and rookie mistakes. The bad part is some of the rookie mistakes are happening to guys that SHOULD be veterans - namely Taylor and Barton.
3) The O-Line has issues, but it's not horrible. Quite a few miscommunications when the d-line runs stunts and twists. Gabe Jackson seems to have forgotten how to pass block.
4) The time of possession has been absurd. The defense needs to get some stops.

Aside from possibly Barton, all of these things are fixable. During the off-season, we all expected "growing pains" from all the rookies and a new QB and all that, but now that we SEE them, everybody is complaining. We have played two Super Bowl contending teams and ended up 1-1. Now we play two teams expected to compete with us for the #1 overall pick, and I expect things to look a lot better.
