This is the MarinerTalk forum. Far more credible than the Seattle Times forum!!!auroraave wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 5:49 pm"Spoken about on here" is not proof or any kind of verifiable evidence. If you cannot provide proof carroll actually said it - then your position is non existent. It's purely heresay. No one goes into court and says 'your honor, my proof is that is was "spoke about on the ST forum". That doesn't hold any merit. PLease provide the quote. If it happened, should not be hard to find - and that is 100% on you to provide since it is your position - the burden on proof is on you.

Gonna guess this is what he was referring to.auroraave wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 5:49 pm"Spoken about on here" is not proof or any kind of verifiable evidence. “We have to run the ball better, not even better, we have to run it more. We have to dictate what’s going on with the people that we’re playing, and that’s one of the ways to do that."
Re: Rate the position groups
Pete has preached he wants ball control, winning the turnover battle and to run the ball.
But reality is all teams want to do that. A balanced attack is always the best offense.
There was a time were there seemed to be exceptions that worked with Manning and Brady and certain
teams and certain coaches do end a game with more passing plays than others, but if you never run the ball
you make it easy to defend the pass. The West Coast offense was supposed to end this, but it didn't really.
The "spread" and "air raid" offenses try to bypass running, but still, balanced attack wins out.
If the best running team in the world decided to never throw the ball they would suck too.
My paraphrase of Pete's philosophy is - he would rather be very threatening with the run game to set up
and make safer the passing game, for his style of balanced attack. Side note - back with RW could and
would run a lot, his running also served as balance, even when the RBs were getting stuffed. This I why
I prefer a QB that can and wants to run a lot.

Re: Rate the position groups
Assuming the following weighting of the position groups by importance ...
QB 7, RB 2, WR 2, TE 1, OL 5, DL 4, Edge 3, LB 4, DB 6, ST 7
... I calculate the following overall team ratings and infer the expected record. Keep in mind an average grade is 5.5:
QB 7, RB 2, WR 2, TE 1, OL 5, DL 4, Edge 3, LB 4, DB 6, ST 7
... I calculate the following overall team ratings and infer the expected record. Keep in mind an average grade is 5.5:
Code: Select all
Name Team Rating Exp Wins
-------------------------------------
Sibelius H 5.46 8/9
Michael K 6.17 9/10
D-train 6.24 10
Douché 6.12 9/10
Maoling 6.93 11/12
Sea.Addict 7.22 12
Auroraave 7.77 13/14
CascadeKid 6.05 9/10

Looks like Aurora and I are the extremists with regard to our assessments of the roster. Should be interestin' ta see how it all plays out.

Re: Rate the position groups
interesting - how are Exp Wins calculated? It seems high - I don't really expect a 12-win season.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 7:14 pmAssuming the following weighting of the position groups by importance ...

Tough to predict wins based just on position groups - we lost 3 games last year because of Cody Barton and 3 games a few years earlier because of Blair Walsh.
The one thing that makes me optimistic is that on PAPER, our team depth is much better up and down the roster, where normally we're one injury away from disaster. The only exception is interior of the DL, and they don't seem to care, so I'm gonna wait and see. They want to put 3 guys of the same size out there instead of one huge guy and a couple quicker guys, so I'll see how it works.

Re: Rate the position groups
Nine road games this season, hardly any of it seems like a gimme, and this looks like a slog. If we somehow get to 11-6, I'll be a happy camper going into the playoffs...Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 1:22 amIt was a highly scientific process, i assure you.SeattleAddict wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 12:29 aminteresting - how are Exp Wins calculated? Re: Rate the position groups
Well, you gave above average grades to every position group other than DL, which you gave a 5. That sounds like an 11 win team to me.
