Lockett restructures
Seahawks have restructured the contract of WR Tyler Lockett, converting $8.535M of his base salary into a signing bonus, creating $5.69M in cap space.
That's actually quite a bit of space, enough to add a good player, or two decent ones.

This isn't something SEA usually does. They must have their eye on someone. Clark, perhaps?

I'd love to see Shelby back on the DL rotation against rushing downs.SeattleAddict wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 6:45 pmI'm thinking Shelby Harris, but it might not be anybody right now - just provisional for after roster cuts.

I wouldn't be disappointed if they also took that money and spent it on a sign and trade deal with TB for Devin White. Certainly an impossible dream however.

I think they needed that extra cap space in order to just sign all their draft picks.

Usually draft pick signings are included in reported cap space numbers because all the draft picks have slotted fixed values.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 11:23 amI think they needed that extra cap space in order to just sign all their draft picks.

I wonder if glass-jaw Jamal might buy in to a contract restructure. We rescued him from NY shit world, gave up a lot, and it wouldn't hurt if he gave something back for this year, so we could add more depth if he is not ready. Geno gave us a friendly deal, Tyler renegotiated, Wags could have gotten more elsewhere, but came home.
I think Jamal needs to step up and send a team message he is all in with a contract restructure for more cap space, since he has given us almost nothing on the field since he got here.

Re: Lockett restructures
I doubt they would want to restructure Jamal. It doesn't cost the player anything, it's to their favor. It converts salary that's not guaranteed to a bonus that is guaranteed.
The classic restructure is what is known as a “simple restructure”, in which the player’s Base Salary is reduced down to the applicable league minimum and the difference is immediately paid to the player as a Signing Bonus, which is then prorated over the remaining years of the contract. So, again, the player is receiving nothing less than he was original supposed to. In fact, he’s receiving the bulk of the money sooner as a Bonus, instead of spread out over the 17 weeks of the season
