Nose tackles don't run in space much though do they?
No, but what's your point? Are you saying that there is no momentum?

Here is the same calulation based on Young's 10 yard. There would be a negligible difference in his 10 yard that would impact his momentum

304lbs, 0.545m/s = 543 lb-ft/s

320lbs, 0.545m/s = 572 lb-ft/s

That is still 29 lb-ft/s gained with the added weight. Likely less given it's just a launch step or two. But having the added weight certainly adds a benefit upon engagement. Maybe he adds another 5 or so pounds without impacting his launch time and adds to his momentum.

Sure but the added weight probably will make him slower.
Sure. Let's say that changes his velocity to .79m/s = 829 lb-ft/s. That is still 37 lb-ft/s in momentum added.
A 5% increase in mass only decreases velo by ~1%?
I suppose it will all depend on how any given player handles the added weight. But as just stated above after SH pointed out that this contact is not happening at 40 yards, the engaged momentum will happen in the first step or two. But nevertheless, the added weight certainly provides added momentum, plus a size that is more immovable. Adding 16lbs at NT certainly does provide benefits.

Same with Morris who gained a full 20lbs. Still jealous of that. Please eat amazing food for a couple months and gain 20 lbs and we will pay you millions to do. Dream world. lol

There's this thing where athletes have to struggle to keep weight off but there is another side to it where they have to work at keeping it on. I was reading somewhere about offensive linemen in particular, they tend to shrink after retirement, and quite a bit. Have to wonder how healthy that is.
Former Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl offensive lineman Marshal Yanda lost 64 pounds in the first four months after retiring from the NFL

Are you sure he didn't just stuff himself with triple bacon cheeseburgers in the weeks leading up to camp?

I think it's more likely he went about it under a supervised training program. I base that on what seems an obvious desire to make the team and what the team laid out for him to accomplish in order for that to happen. I doubt they told him to go stuff himself with triple bacon cheeseburgers

Based on the competition i'd say he would be a lock to make the team if he had shown up to camp weighing 95 lbs.

But he chose not to do that. JS describes him as a grown man, they talk about his grit and determination, his leadership qualities. This is what was wanted wasn't it, to draft for character. He doesn't sound like the type of guy that sat around eating cheeseburgers to try and make a NFL team

Okay i'll concede the added weight makes him a better NT, but it doesn't make him a better overall athlete. I'd feel better with someone that carried the seight more naturally.
