Injury updates

Post by SeattleAddict » Tue Oct 10, 2023 4:30 am

Cross practiced today, which means he will almost definitely (barring setback) play Sunday. J. Adams should clear protocol tomorrow and be available.

Lucas and McIntosh still not ready - Lucas not eligible for another week, McIntosh eligible this week but probably a week away. But a forgotten tidbit - Jason Peters should be ready to go, meaning we'd have a couple starting caliber tackles on the field for the first time since week 1.

Most importantly, though not surprising, is that Geno's knee is "fine" according to everybody.

Jarran Reed and Tre Brown practiced. Haynes and Lewis are maybes - Pete said it's possible one or both could go, but it's too early to tell.

Dareke Young is eligible to come off IR and might be ready soon, Bryant did not practice but they didn't really even talk about him.

Don't know that much should be expected from Peters. When did he last play in an actual game as a starter?

he started 1 game last year, 15 the year before that. He may not be the same as he was in his prime, but a 9x pro bowler and future HOFer should at least be better than Stone Feet Forsythe.

I thought I read not that long ago that he was still pretty far away from taking the field?

He is ready but won't be needed with Cross coming back.

yeah both wrong. Sorta. "not long ago" was 3 weeks ago, and now he's apparently ready (or will be). Pete also specifically said he can play RT or G, so I expect him at RT unless they are truly desperate at G (though it would make more sense to move Curhan to G, IMHO, as that's his natural position).

@Madmart54370 asked: Is Jason Peters doing well enough to push for playing time at [right tackle]? Or is he just going to be a practice squad coach?

The 41-year-old Peters, a 20-year veteran and nine-time Pro Bowler, was signed after the season-opening loss to the Rams amid injuries to Lucas and Charles Cross — neither of whom has played since the first half of that game.

Peters acknowledged then he might need a little bit of time to get game ready. Carroll said Saturday that Peters is getting “close now, he’s ready to go now. He feels like he can play, so he’s available to us.”

However, Peters was not elevated off the practice squad and has yet to suit up for Seattle.

And in the meantime, third-year players Jake Curhan and Stone Forsythe have held down the tackle spots, on the right and left sides, respectively. Each has played 100% of the snaps the past three games.

Cross might be back for the Bengals game, which leads to the question of whether Seattle would start Forsythe on the right side or leave Curhan there.

But Cross’ return obviously makes the need for Peters to play a little less, though it remains unclear when Lucas will be back.

As for Curhan and Forsythe, the team has been pleased with their play.

“They’ve handled it as well as you could hope guys could handle it,” Carroll said last week. “Their coaches are doing a great job with them, to keep them clear and confident and all of that. As you’ve seen there’s been a little bit of talk about how [Peters has] been helping those guys a little bit, too. Gives a little bit more of a boost to them when they have questions, when they have issues, or he may see something or feel something coming for them so he can head it off for them. It’s a real good support group that’s giving these guys a chance and they’re doing really well. They’re really busting their tails to get it done.”

Is there any chance he can keep from getting himself hurt again? At least ease into "mad frenzy" slowly?
