One thing I would have done differently is line up both teams with the ball but let them take off once it is kicked.

No the two teams are lined up farther apart from each other and the receiving team runs back to set up a wedge and absorbs full blows from guys running at full speed. Being only 5 yards a part prevents that.

Oh, okay - didn't read your original post very carefully, that would definitely reduce the big collisions. It would be interesting though to see how the blockers approached it, whether they would try to engage the coverage guys right away without running back, and then how many would get through to run down the return man.

It's probably better than the kick through the endzone, but barely.
The more they try to legislate injury potential, the more injured the players become.
The people Goodell is trying to appease will kill the sport at their first opportunity if given the chance.
