Five year vet who started three games in the past three years. He is definitely what the Hawks look for in a FA OLineman.

Yeah, and he's flexible, plays both tackle and guard, they like that
In his limited playing time, the 26-year-old Van Lanen has played both tackle and guard spots, albeit with only 18 of his snaps coming at guard compared to 300 at the tackle spots.

This guy thinks basically everybody hates what JS has done this off season
The assessment being Geno is better than Darnold
The assessment being Geno is better than Darnold
`https://cw39.com/sports/sports-illustra ... rs-on-top/While we still disagree with that assessment based on what we saw from Darnold during most of the 2024 campaign - it is difficult to argue with some harsh numbers that have emerged in the wake of the big move. For example, a chart from The Athletic which shows expected points added during the offseason has Pete Carroll, Geno Smith and the Las Vegas Raiders on top at +35.8 points. Meanwhile, the Seahawks are near the bottom at -23.3.

I think that What John did with Geno and DK was brilliant. The thing that I find odd is that they freed up a ton of cap space but then didn't use it. They have about $32 Million left in cap space. They could have easily brought in just about any free agent they wanted. They just didn't seem to want to. Its odd.

John Stanton would let him spend it.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 31, 2025 7:25 pmI think that What John did with Geno and DK was brilliant. They have to keep some aside for signing draft picks and for in-season contingencies. From what i understand, they have used up almost all of their discretionary funds with regard to FA signings.

Re: Seahawks' Free Agent Tracker
So JS discussed the offensive line the other day. He basically likes the players currently on the roster, thinks the new coaching and scheme will make the difference. I'm not surprised, they do have some young players I didn't expect them to give up on. But they do need a guard, they seemed to be looking for one. Now JS is saying it's going to be after the draft, sifting through the guys that get cut.
"It probably won't be until after the draft that's a cap casualty guy or something like that," Schneider said when asked about adding a veteran lineman. "We brought several guys through, it just hasn't been a fit."
Guess it should be similar to what cable ran"Zone stuff is coming off the ball and running, and anytime you can instill your will on someone else first, especially as an offensive lineman—instilling confidence in those guys in huge," Schneider said. "If you're sitting backed up and you're in shotgun and you're throwing the crud out of it, that doesn't help those guys' confidence. These guys are like, all right, we run off the ball, we establish the run game, all the boots, all the movement, everything moves off of that."
. "It's pretty cool with this staff—there's a system, which is awesome, now here are the teachers," Schneider said. "These guys are all proven teachers. To see those guys assimilate as quickly as they did to working with the other coaches and our personnel staff and the whole operations group, it was awesome."
Coaching zone is kinda a lost art I guess. "I know everybody's like, 'You need offensive linemen,'' Schneider said. "Yeah, we do want to add to our offensive line—but it's cool to have those guys come in from the outside and be like, 'Shoot, I loved Christian coming out, I loved Taoa.' They like the guys."
Competition for centerSchneider added of Dennison and Benton, "Having those developers, having guys who have a consistent, proven offensive system where you can see how they've helped other players over the years where you're like, 'I didn't think that guy was going to be a starter in the National Football League, and now he is a starter, and he's thriving,' it instills confidence in the whole group of us that are evaluating… Truthfully there's probably only like six, seven, eight of those zone guys who are proven commodities still coaching in the league."
"You guys haven't really seen Jalen yet," Schneider said. "He came in and they played really well. He played several positions. The staff really likes him. He's smart, reliable, he's tough. That's going to be interesting. Those two guys, that's going to be pretty interesting there."

So he's going with the same plan that has resulted in a decade of terrible O lines? Just add another Blythe, Jackson or Tomlinson type of talent that couldn't start for another team and ta-daah! Hopefully he's just saying that to disguise his draft intentions from other GMs.
