Don't know why they can't find a way to schedule this game in later in the year. The The SEC always seems to have a late season non conference game built into their schedules. Last Year on November 22nd Alabama played Eastern Illinois, Georgia played Charlotte and Auburn Played Mercer. Tennessee played New Mexico State on November 15th.

And USC/Notre Dame is always later in the season, right? Further, that's a bona-fide matchup. Pretty unfair that those SEC schools get to play against palookas and rest their starters in anticipation of their biggest games of the season.

It's opening day. Seems pretty prestigious to me. I would rather that then the type of program they have played in the past game 1. How is playing them late in the season better? Tradition? Oregon is by FAR our #1 one rival now and we play them late in the season.

Rivalry games need to have some run up to them. The teams need time to figure out who they are and start to build up some anticipation and some hope that you are going to beat your rival this year. Having a rivalry game right off the get go just loses a lot of the pomp and circumstance. Also even if one team has been down heading into the Apple Cup there has often been that opportunity to be the spoiler and ruin the other teams bowl aspirations. I agree that Oregon is our biggest Rival but there is nothing wrong with having more than one rival. Having the Cougs fill a spot in the schedule that has always been held by Portland State or Idaho just sort of take all of the luster out of the whole thing.

I guess I would rather the M's play the Astros or Yankees on OD vs. the Marlins or Rockies. I feel the same about the Huskies 1st game.

I'm not that upset that they play game one now, but not thrilled with it being a Sunday.

I told you it was a bad idea to become a priest but you didn't listen!

LOL, I observe the Church of the NFL most Sundays, so having football on a Sunday isn't that big of a deal. But I have a Fantasy Football draft every year for the past three or so decades. Always on the Sunday of Labor Day. I grew up in a farming community, so the farmers are usually either done cutting by then, or at least able to take Sunday off.
