#33 might be the worst player in the history of college basketball.
How about #1 continuing to hoist up 3s like he is Ray Allen and nothing be air EVERY time.
Right? I found myself yelling NO every time he squared up!

For years I have advocated that the U host a Christmas Classic that included Gonzaga, UW, WSU, SU, and four "at large" teams. I think the U is afraid Gonzaga would win every year!

Well SU gave us a better fight than Gonzaga this year so I guess they suck this year. lol

This might be the most insane stat line of all time. Pete Maravich averaged 44 points a game in college. Hoisted up nearly a shot a minute. Most amazing thing this was BEFORE the 3 pointer.

How ironic. The hoops team got a five star recruit but the football team didn't.
By Percy Allen
Seattle Times staff reporter
TACOMA – Zoom Diallo gave the Washington men’s basketball team and coach Mike Hopkins an early Christmas gift when he committed to play for the Huskies next season.

In front of a crowded room of family and friends at the Rhodes Center and sitting between his parents Siaka and Adja, Diallo, whose first name is Vazoumana, picked UW over Gonzaga, Arizona and USC during an announcement televised by ESPN.

“It feels good,” said Diallo, who wore a white t-shirt with Huskies inscribed on the front and a purple Washington baseball cap. “It’s a sense of relief. I’m done. Especially having all these people in my circle who came out to support. I mean, it just means so much. It brings a joy to my face. It means a joy to me and my family’s face. I’m just happy to get it over.”

Diallo, a five-star recruit, is the nation’s top-ranked Class of 2024 point guard and the 19th overall prospect, according to 247Sports.com.

The 6-foot-4 and 204-pound senior is Washington’s highest-rated recruit since Isaiah Stewart and Jaden McDaniels, who were nationally ranked fourth and 13th respectively, signed in 2019.

Merry Christmas, Huskies
Zoom Diallo, who led University Place’s Curtis High to a pair of Class 4A state boys basketball championships, became the seventh five-star prospect to verbally commit to play for the Washington Huskies. Here’s a look.

Name Pos Ht Year 247Sports ranking
Isaiah Stewart PF 6-9 2019 0.9992
Markelle Fultz PG 6-4 2016 0.9983
Martell Webster* SF 6-7 2005 0.9977
Spencer Hawes C 7-1 2006 0.9975
Jaden McDaniels PF 6-9 2019 0.9969
Abdul Gaddy PG 6-3 2009 0.9939
Zoom Diallo PG 6-4 2024 0.9910
*opted to go pro

247Sports’ ranking tool – a compilation of major recruiting services – tabs Diallo the seventh highest rated recruit in UW history after Stewart, Markelle Fultz, Martell Webster (who went to the NBA instead), Spencer Hawes, McDaniels and Abdul Gaddy.

“It was very important,” Diallo said when asked about staying home. “Just representing my state and knowing there’s people in my circle that’s always going to support me. I felt like there’s no better place for me.”

Diallo said he made his decision weeks ago, but spent the past few days contemplating between Washington and Gonzaga.

“I was back and forth and then I slept on it the last few days,” Diallo said. “Then I was like, I just want to be a Husky.

“It was a feeling. I prayed on it. I have my faith in God and trust in myself and trust my work. My feelings never changed, especially the last days. I kind of knew for sure today and then I just had to tell everybody else.”

Diallo credited UW associate head coach Will Conroy and former Husky star Isaiah Thomas for helping him with his decision.

“I was talking to IT a day ago,” Diallo said. “He was just giving me pointers, not just on the decision, but just on life. Just telling to stay working and just continue to be a good person.”

Diallo said he’s “blessed” to be included in a lineage of standout Tacoma-area basketball players that includes Thomas, Gaddy, Avery Bradley and Malachi Flynn.

“There’s a bunch of dudes that I could name and put on that list,” Diallo said. “We got some hoopers here in Tacoma.”

As a sophomore and junior, Diallo led University Place’s Curtis High to a combined 53-4 record and back-to-back Class 4A state championships in 2022 and 2023 before transferring to Prolific Prep in Napa, Calif., for his senior season.

“Diallo is a true point guard with excellent positional size and strength,” 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finelstein wrote in a June 28, 2022, evaluation. “He sees the floor, passes the ball at a high-level, and has a pretty natural feel for the game.

“The fact that he can overpower and see overtop of most opposing guards just highlights the overlap of his physical tools and processing ability that much more.”

Washington (8-3) will lose starters Keion Brooks Jr., Sahvir Wheeler, Paul Mulcahy and Moses Wood and backup guard Anthony Holland to graduation after the season.

Barring any other departures, UW returns sophomore guards Koren Johnson and Nate Calmese, freshmen forwards Wesley Yates III and Christian King, who haven’t played this season, and big men Franck Kepnang, Braxton Meah, Wilhelm Breidenbach and Samuel Ariyibi.

In November, Washington added three-star prospect Casmir “Cash” Chavis, a 6-2 point guard from Minnesota and the next signing period is April 17 to May 15.

With the addition of Diallo, Washington will have three available scholarships and likely fill out the roster with transfers.

“With that group of guys that already know the system, they’re going to teach me about UDub’s brand of basketball. But I’ve watched them all my life and I already know them,” Diallo said.

“I feel like we’re going to bond well. Those are good guys. They’re going to get a guy that’s going to do whatever to win. If that’s scoring, passing, rebounding or (playing defense) it don’t matter. … I’m ready to go. Let’s go Huskies.”

If Hopkins had an entire team of 5 star recruits he would still at best scrape into the tournament and exit by the round of 32.

We have not had much luck with these guys at all, regardless of the coach. It is very hard to run a program with these one and done guys, unless you can continue to bring them in each and every year. I still say if we could have somehow kept the early entrants before Stewart and McDanials got here? Then MAYBE we had something. But you can't build a team if every year you are out replacing damn near all your difference makers. No shock, in my eyes, that our best teams have always had key upper classmen and didn't revolve around 18 year old kids that don't want to be in college anyway.

Isaiah Stewart PF 6-9 2019 0.9992
Rather large bust. I blame McDaniels for being a cancer and the PG for never going to class and getting suspended. But still. Beat the #1 team from Baylor on the road, then barely won a Conference game!

Markelle Fultz PG 6-4 2016 0.9983
Mega bust, and was in the Pros as well. Hard to believe a guy that can't shoot would be rated so high. I guess Wooten was too. Man, we seem to love those guys!

Martell Webster* SF 6-7 2005 0.9977 *opted to go pro
No story, went pro

Spencer Hawes C 7-1 2006 0.9975
Pared with Brockman, and I don't think they even made the NIT!

Jaden McDaniels PF 6-9 2019 0.9969
Enormouse ass, and we should have known that based on the controversy surrounding his brother.

Abdul Gaddy PG 6-3 2009 0.9939
#1 PG in America. That class must not have been very good.

Zoom Diallo PG 6-4 2024 0.9910
Fingers crossed, but based on our recent history? Not holding out a lot of hope.

No doubt we should have had more success with all this talent. Webster shouldnt even count since he never set foot at Hec Ed. But i take umbrage with your bust label for some of these. Fultz was a one-man show with no help around him, but averaged close to 20 points a game his one season here on his way to the #1 overall pick - don't know how you can pan him for that, though you're certainly bummed as a Sixers fan. Hawes was a good player while here for at least two seasons, could have used some better perimeter shooters to compliment him as i recall. Gaddy i agree with but especially McDaniels i will fully back you up on as a complete bust in his time here, before making something of himself at the pro level (supposedly, - dont care to follow him in a Sonic-less NBA). But Stewart i must stand up for - watched most every game that season, and he was everything that we wanted Spencer to be - excellent low-post scorer and rebounder. Believe they beat eventual champ Baylor in their season-opener thanks largely to the inside toughness that he provided - the complete opposite of McDaniels in nearly every way. Even in the good years we had a lot of good guard play, had Brockman to hustle and rebound for 4 years and a couple of post-players who could score, but nobody like him who could do both consistently, plus block shots and defend, combining premier talent with premier effort. Again, the total opposite of Jaden.

Yeah, I mentioned the Baylor game, and agree some of those kids produced. The point is not a single one of them, and you can add Wrotten to that list, played in one single NCAA Tourney game. Non of those teams were any good.
