Yo Mike, I found this little tid bit on Gil Dobie, past UW coach.

Gil Dobie era (1908–1916)

Gil Dobie left North Dakota Agricultural and became Washington's head coach in 1908. Dobie coached for nine remarkable seasons at Washington, posting a 58–0–3 record.[13] Dobie's career comprised virtually all of Washington's NCAA all-time longest 64-game unbeaten streak[13] (outscoring opponents 1930–118) and included a 40-game winning streak, second longest in NCAA Division I-A/FBS history.[3] In 1916, Washington and three other schools formed the Pacific Coast Conference, predecessor to the modern Pac-12 Conference. In Dobie's final season at Washington, his 1916 team won the PCC's inaugural conference championship. Dobie was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951 as a charter member.

And this is the guy you discount.
I wonder if they got the name for the sitcom from him.

And I was drinking a little last night when I posted that. LOL

No to Jimmy Lake.

I really don't understand the issue. We get better talent than both Arizona and Oregon State, but they have vastly better defenses. Is it scheme, coaching or over-rated recruits?

Then on the other side, USC gets pretty good talent and are absolutely garbage.

When you look at who they played? I think one season they played three High School teams. I don’t discount him, just don’t put him higher than Pete.

The only way the words Penix and Heisman should be related is if someone is mentioning at one point he was a contender!

And can someone PLEASE explain to me why Johnson took himself off the field? Don't play him again.... THIS YEAR. SERIOUSLY? The dude runs twice for a first down and checks himself out? Fucking soft.
I didn't see that. How do you know he took himself out? Was he injured, did he return to the game after that?
Yeah, he raised his hand and asked out. I probably over reacted as I thought he was just wanting out of the game. Didn’t realize he hit his head. Hope he’s alright. We never punt the ball back if he doesn’t go out, IMO.

The first time that I read that I assumed they were Freshmen games (only). Especially when you take into account that the score was significantly different when they played colleges and military groups.

For instance one year they played Rainier Beach and beat them 50-0, then played Willemite University and beat them 100-0.

I just have a hard time putting a head coach that made a final 4 in the modern era beneath a guy that played HS teams.

Hey, at least they didn't stoop to going up against a Junior High or Pee-Wee League team. 😅
