How tf did we beat Baylor?

Post by IStillLoveTheMs » Sat Jan 11, 2020 7:52 pm

They just took out No. 3 Kansas... are now 13-1. Might slide into the no. 2 rank in the country with the win.

Their only loss is to a team full of 6'9 + guys who can't shoot or dribble... but can occasionally stick their arms high enough to get a few blocks.

Honestly, the reason that we beat Baylor is because the Huskies played about 12 minutes of their best team basketball of the season. It was not pretty basketball but it was effective. Since then they have played "look at me" basketball. You have Hamir Wright jacking 3's and hitting 27%. You have the team that does not take care of the ball with McDaniels averaging 3.4 TO..

They have very little basketball IQ on this tean. Now with Green ineligible there is no one that will take the ball from McDaniels. They are scrambling to try and teach someone to be a smart player and handle the ball.

I don’t know about that. This is a bad group, IMO. His best players are his youngest players, he has no PG, and zero veteran leadership. Maybe Hop is at fault for Carter and Wright’s regression, but ai have a hard time giving a coach 2 players that don’t play Guard and a bunch of turds and saying “win or else’s”.

Looks to me like veterans from the Roman era and Jaylen Nowell covered up a LOT of issues last year. Hop is going to need to continue with big recruiting classes, but hope they aren’t all one and done.

Even with the shit show we should have won both those games in the Bay. Blew 12 point lead and lost in OT. Not saying he needs to take this team to the sweet 16 but he needs to win the winnable games.

I know I am usually the first to jump all over the coach, but I don't know what else he could have done in any of the last three losses. He can't shoot free throws for them, he can't hit jump shots for them and he can't force them to stop turning over the ball.

Maybe they are somehow running the wrong offense for their talent? I doubt that, but what else can he do? Normally I would say more touches for Stewart, but he was flat out abysmal against UCLA and wasn't exactly dominant against Cal.

They can't dribble, they can't shoot, and they appear to not be very smart. I guess you can blame him for recruiting these guys, but this class was very highly rated and everyone loved Carter and Wright...who may be two of the biggest disappointments we have had here in years.

He recruited these guys. Can't recruit guys that you can't coach into a cohesive team.

He's in his third season. Just not ready to say he can't get it done because two of the PGs that were supposed to be decent prospects are not, the PG that he convinced to transfer isn't smart enough to stay eligible and his "veteran leaders" are anything but. It is disappointing, but if I find fault with him in any way it is the lack of development in said Veterans. Hard to get on him for that for one season. I credit him a TON for the development of the players that lead us to some unexpectedly good seasons the last two.

I bet he goes hard after a PG or two this off season. It is too bad that Stewart appears to have been wasted....but there is no one to blame but Quade for the mess we are in at PG, IMO. Not a chance Hop could have had a crystal ball to tell him that an athlete with every advantage available to him to stay eligible would just piss it away.

He recruited Battle too. I sure wonder what kept him off the floor so long, and that PG too? I guess he wanted the PG to red-shirt right?

Don't worry fellas, I won't be watching Saturday....it is terrible luck. I have even relegated my score checking to about once every fifteen minutes or so. I checked two or three times towards the end and we gave up like 5 points on the lead in less than 30 seconds!
