Pay to play

Post by Walla Walla Dawg II » Fri Jan 07, 2022 5:54 pm

College football will never be the same again.

Think about it. These kids now have all the power. If a coach pisses them off, they will leave. They are not under contract like players in the NFL, they can just leave.

When will this affect the NFL as well. With all the angry crying brats in the NCAA right now doing this, I give the NFL 3-5 years before the strike, then it's a free-for-all.

Are the universities still going to give scholarships to atletes that in some cases could be making 6 figures or more?

I believe so. After all, the university doesn't own them or their "likeness".

I fear that college football is irreparably damaged. The only appeal in the first place is school allegiance. Fans identify with their school and take pride in the fact that other students who have a similar identity are out there on behalf of the alma-mater. What is the use in committing emotional capital to players who are just as likely to walk 3 months later for whatever reason? It's no longer college athletics its just a crappy version of an independent minor league football league. I'll probably stick it out for a while for old times sake but if things keep progressing like this its not hard for me to envision a time in the not too distant future where I have no interest in college football. I am already there with basketball.

Yeah, I used to be really into it but Husky football is such a distant 3rd now to M's and Hawks. I couldn't even name more than a handful of players on the 2021 team. Games starting at 10 or 11pm hasn't helped.
