2026 Off Season/Draft

Post by Bil522 » Tue Jun 16, 2026 7:19 am

The draftniks have the Kraken taking a defender with the #7 pick....I think it is more important to get someone who can shoot and score the damn puck. They have 2 picks, maybe work a trade to get to draft LW Ivar Stenberg who be that kind of scorer.

In the weak FA class, I hope they get back Bobby McMann. He sure seemed like he could score. Heck, go get Alex Tuch too. That would definitely be an interesting front line with McMann, Berniers, and Tuch

This looks like a good title for an ongoing offseason thread.

I think they actually have the 8th pick, just far enough away where there's virtually no chance they'll draft a game-changing talent like McKenna or Stenberg. They needed to win the draft lottery and didn't. Of course, look at what they did with the 2 and 4 picks.

I also hope they can re-sign McMann. 29 goals last season, that's what this team desperately needs.

As for free agents, I dread that nobody's going to want to come to Seattle and that they might end up badly overpaying for a Stephenson-type again. One would think that after what happened in Buffalo this season the Sabres would make every effort to re-sign Tuch. After that Bil's right about the free agent class, not a lot there to get excited about.

It really looks like the Kraken are going to have to trade a good number of their veterans for draft picks/youth and just eat it this next season. If they don't they're going to remain in the bottom ten in the league for the next several years. Hanging onto their expansion players in the first place is the biggest reason why we're talking about this now. That and continuing to hire front office people who got fired after doing a terrible job elsewhere.

Nope, it's the 7th pick. See, I don't think Berniers was a bad pick, I just don't think they have had a winger that he meshes with. Eberle is fine, but I think a big winger who can skate, like Tuch, is what this team desperately needs. I think Tuch wants to be paid, and Buffalo won't pay him.

You're right, it is the 7th pick, hopefully that gets us a better player that we otherwise wouldn't have gotten.

The only problem with trying to get Tuch is that they'll have to offer a lot more than a team that's already a contender offers him. We would have been in a great position after Season Two, but the front office decided instead to "step back" by inexplicably letting Geekie and other key players go, not adding anything, and here we are. Top players' agents are probably telling their clients hey, that team's not going to make the playoffs anytime soon.

Well, the Kraken did what they did last year...getting a young player, but this time it was giving up the #25 pick and a 2nd-round pick next year for a guy the same age and a former teammate of Beniers, Mackie Samoskevich. Then they signed Bobby McMann for 6 yrs. Geez, we might have an offense next year.
