By The Athletic. Not surprised at the low ranking or even that they're dead last. They've got a lot of bad contracts. Grubauer, Stephenson, Beniers, to name a few. Even the contracts for Montour, Dunn, Larson and Schwartz are probably big overpays. Thankfully they got rid of Burakofsky.

Im starting to think that a higher priority than the playoffs this upcoming season is to get rid of many of those contracts during the season and try to get a lot younger.

Kraken seem kind of a mess. Seems like plenty of brain power with the owners, what's up. I asked google
Management vs. Ownership Goals: There are reports of potential dysfunction between the management and ownership, with management focused on a long-term development pipeline and ownership reportedly prioritizing immediate winning. This tension can affect the team's ability to attract top coaching talent, as seen with high-profile coaches not immediately considering Seattle for their next job.

Coaching Search Concerns: The team's search for a head coach was challenged, with reports suggesting established coaches were hesitant about the organization's direction or the nucleus of the team as a playoff contender.

Also the forcing of certain staff members on a new coach. A new coach should be able to pick his staff as they see fit. The Kraken did not do that

Here is what the Athletic wrote about the contract inefficiency:

Here’s the best way I can describe how bad Seattle’s cap sheet looks. If you used the remainder of Seattle’s cap space ($7 million) and added another million bucks with careful accounting to add the league’s best contract, Jack Hughes at $8 million, you still wouldn’t have a playoff team. What exactly is this team paying for if it’s not even getting mediocrity?

Countless free-agent gaffes have added up over time to the point that the Kraken are spending nearly $35 million on the following core of players: Chandler Stephenson, Jaden Schwartz, Brandon Montour, Adam Larsson, Jamie Oleksiak, Ryan Lindgren and Philipp Grubauer. You’ve heard the old adage that you can’t build a winner through free agency? Well, if you also overpay each free agent, you can’t even build average, apparently. That’s where the Kraken stand.

The Joey Daccord deal is really nice (by goalie standards, anyway) and if Matty Beniers ever learns how to score he’ll have a nice contract too. But almost the entire rest of the roster is paying so much for mid that the team just ends up bad. The Kraken have a lot of work cut out for them.

Like Jessica Campbell, their prize DEI hire. I wonder how many of the top coaches available this past offseason looked at that and said ha ha, no way am I coaching for that rinkydink organization.

Everything about this team is a joke, from the virtue signalling arena name to the clueless front office and greedy owners.

I don't know about greedy owners (like Michael Douglas said in Wall Street, "Greed is good"), but my wife and I toured the arena two years ago and our guide was just all BLAH BLAH BLAH about all the stuff that was recycled. I told my wife that she should have worn her Trump shirt so that the guide would have known to skip the recycling crap and also all the WNBA crap. :D

I would have put $20 on someone being triggered and you and your wife being asked to leave if she wore a Trump shirt.

"Okay, let's start the tour! There's the dumpster...and there's the exit. Hope you enjoyed the tour!"
