Eh... stars get the calls. Not just MJ, but Malone and Barkley too. And Kobe and Lebron and James Harden. Teams had the opportunity to beat Jordan, but simply failed. If you want to talk about teams never having a chance, how about the Golden State Warriors with Curry, Green, Thompson, and Durant?Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 5:41 amHe grew the NBA into a global business through shrewd marketing and at the expense of the game itself. Whenever i hear his name i will always associate not just our Sonics getting stolen away, but the deification of one player and the bending of rules and the biased officiating that went along with that, as well as teams like the Sonics, Jazz, Suns, and Trailblazers that never had a chance going up against that corruption of the game.
Surprisingly, many Sonics fans are wishing him the best. I guess I see their point, they don't want to be as vindictive as him even though he did screw us out of the NBA not once but twice. Still, I wish him nothing but the worst from here on out and that also goes to rest of the Fugly Four.
Remember that push-off by Jordan of the Utah defender right before he sank the series-winnning jump shot in the '98 finals? He got away with shit like that all the time. He could get away with pretty much anything. He could take 4 steps with the ball tucked away and dunk it and if anyone breathed on him it was an "and one". And on the other end he could totally grope-fuck whoever he was guarding and not draw a whistle. It was ridiculous and led to the decomposition of team basketball at all levels as the media looked to anoint the next "Jordan" based on how flashy they looked dunking the ball.DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 2:51 amEh... stars get the calls. How is winning 72 games not team basketball? The next team to do it was the Warriors with 73, coached by Steve Kerr a former member of the 72 win Bulls team. Were Kerr's warriors not playing team basketball? You simply can't destroy the competition to the tune of 72-73 wins without all 5 guys on the court working in synchronicity. Stern didn't make Jordan, Jordan made Jordan. Jordan was a team player and a great defender. He won titles by passing to Steve Kerr and John Paxton for game winning shots. Any player who can elevate their game to an elite level is going to get the calls. Jordan is arguably the greatest NBA player ever and in my opinion the most iconic athlete of my lifetime without any question. So, would you be surprised that he was marketed or that he got some whistles in his favor? There were many other stars marketed. There was Barkley, Malone, Clyde Drexler, Patrick Ewing, Reggie Miller. They all got their fair share of the calls. The Supersonics got their fair share of calls. Officials were in love with Detlef Schrempf and Rickey Pierce. The NBA is always going to work that way, because they have human beings performing the referee duties. Plenty of reasons to hate on Stern. No reason to tarnish the legacy of #23 while you're at it. Kid was balling since North Carolina.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Sun Dec 15, 2019 1:18 amRemember that push-off by Jordan of the Utah defender right before he sank the series-winnning jump shot in the '98 finals? This is what made watching NBA playoffs ...unwatchable. It turned my stomach. Anyone who was blind to this needs to pop a fist full of RED PILLS.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 5:41 amHe grew the NBA into a global business through shrewd marketing and at the expense of the game itself.
