Just glanced at the nbc article, the controversy is about the idea of safe spaces. Don't know about that, there are clubs now that promote camping and hiking for blacks, is that a safe space?. Fact is not many blacks camp, doing it with others that look like you makes sense. There has been discrimination, national and state parks upheld Jim crow laws where they applied, they were segregated
And how many years ago were those Jim Crow Laws thrown out? I really don't like the ability of people to pull up laws that were scrapped over 50 years ago. Most African-Americans alive today were not alive in 1965. If you are going to pull that old canard out of your hat, then lets pin the fact that the Dims were in bed with the KKK nearly 150 years ago.

You guys are too sensitive, it doesn't make it racist. Black attendance at parks stands like 7%. I think an aspect to that number is a lack of a connection between blacks and parks, there isn't a strong tradition of outdoor recreation. Something that's been passed along through generations. Your grandfather didn't take your father to parks because access was restricted for that generation, so your father probably isn't taking you camping since he never became interested from his father. Sure this generation has moved beyond that aspect and interest is in fact rising. That's what the article was about, growing interest

Sure the democrats were aligned with the KKK, it was in opposition to the republican administration of Abraham Lincoln. And not too long ago the democrats were considered the party of the working class and the republicans the party of big business, times change
